As reported by various sources, LG, one of the pioneer in the smartphone industry that paved the way for high definition cameras, capacitive touchscreen and more features that all the modern smartphones now have decided to withdraw from the mobile market starting on July 31. Fierce competition from cheaper brands such as Oppo starting to flood the market with cheap phones. After years of financial losses, the South Korean company decided to close its Mobile unit.

I think it is the right move though their phone manufacturing was not recording a lot of losses. But its focus is now on making vehicle spare parts, robotics and Ai which is good for the company. One cannot argue that Lg is still a big phone manufacturing company behind Samsung and Apple.

The cheap phones are getting more popular for sure. Who would like to buy LG at a high price when you can get Oppo and Infinix with the same features cheaply. I just wonder why they couldn't just lower their prices and continue being in the market.

I haven't see any LG advertisment in mobile phone here in my country. All i see is oppo, samsung, xiaomi and iphone..
My step sister used to have an LG phone about 10 years ago but now she use samsung. That LG phone broke phisically..

It's a good move for LG, they have done all their calculations and knew that if they continue like this it would lead to loss. LG is known for a lot of things like TV, Air conditioning so it would be a great idea to focus on those areas where production is at its peak.

you are absolutely right , we used too say that flip phones that were fashionable about a decade then came blackberry trend now its all about samsung , even nokia has very bare market share in smartphones , all i see here in my country is samsung , samsung and samsung only

But I think they should still have bought manufacturing tights in some of the major phone making companies. One thing about LG products and phones inclusive is that they are durable and will give you value for your money both in shelf life and user experience in terms of performance.

LG is a famous tech brand but maybe smartphones are not for them.. noticed they don't have much users here on my country but in other electronics they are still a hit

I think LG is earning more for its appliances and it is good to quit in the game when you are losing. There are so many brands of smart phone in the market and competition is getting fierce much more that China had joined the fun. Our air conditioner is LG and they should just focus on the appliances.

In my own opinion I guess the other phones push out of competition. The likes of those cheap and affordable Android phones did. The cost of getting a good LG phone can be used to get two Tecno phones with if not almost but a little different features.

I was never really a fan on their smartphones to be honest. They started very well initially but they were not putting so much detail to the product and they were beginning to use out. It is very good that they have decided to pull back very early before wasting too much money on promotion.

They couldn't survive the competition. And it seems that they were confused about the direction to go. They were caught in between being high end and mid end. It is good they have stopped their foray in the smartphone industry to focus more on their home electronics where they are undisputed authorities.
