When the lock downs begun I was working in sales. You know the deal - minimal wage plus a commission, but since there were so few customers I was not making enough money to cover my basic expenses.
My anxiety went trough the roof and at one point I thought, I would have to move back with my parents. Not that it's the worst thing on the planet, but if you are a guy in his 20s living mommy and daddy is not a dream situation.
At that time all I did is complained about my situation, which didn't exactly make me very popular with other people.
However a friend took pity on me and invited me to join a team play poker chat room he was in. I told him that I don't even know how to play poker, but he convinced me to give it a try. Team play is when couple of people sit on a table and share with each other what cards they have, and they play as a team against the rest of the players on the table.
I was doing pretty well, but the summer came and many of the restrictions got lifted and my regular job picked up. Standing on your feet 8 hours a day trying to sell a person something that they probably don't want and most likely don't need is a joyless existence. On top of that I started making more money from the poker than my ""real"" job. So last October I decided to quit and just play poker.
To be honest I've never been more happy in my life. I feel free and in control for the first time. I just wanted to vent a little and share my experience(maybe brag a little).
If you have any questions leave them in the comments bellow and I will try to answer to the best of my abilities.

I quit my job to play online poker

Quitting your job to play online poker full-time can be a risky decision, as it's not guaranteed to be a sustainable source of income. Here are a few things to consider before making such a decision:

  1. Income stability: Online poker can be a volatile source of income, and there's always the risk of losing money. It's important to have a backup plan or savings in case your poker income is not consistent.
  2. Skill level: Your ability to make money from online poker will depend on your skill level. If you're not already an experienced and winning player, it's important to be realistic about your chances of success.
  3. Time commitment: Playing online poker full-time...
That is a wrong decision to quit your daily paying job for gambling. Gambling is not healthy for any individual because when it becomes addictive, you affect the individuals mental health.
I have been involved in sports betting in the time past and I never benefitted from it and decided to quit....
That's too much of a risk on the his part because where would be even get the money to gamble on if he has no source of income or maybe he thought that gambling is all about the win and there's no risk of losing your assets at all.
I wouldn't leave my decent paying job or business for anything and certainly not to become a gambler.

That is too risky for sure. I wonder too where he would get the money to gamble it he has left his job. Sometimes it is best to think twice before making such a decision.

The person may have really taught that gambling is more of wins than loss. Well, it is the exact opposite.

The thing is that there are just different calibers of people and how they reason and make decisions. It's understandable to leave ones job to another better paying one or to go fully into business especially if the job you have right now is underpaying you or is not meeting with your daily life needs.
But leaving one's job to go into gambling is a thing I would never understand. That's just too much of a risk and a very bad decision to make about one's financial life.

Everything is not just luck. I remember someone looking at notes while he was betting on horse racing A lot of research goes into anything that involves betting

Good Luck

Nice, you're good at it if you can make it as your main income source. Still, it's not a stable source of main income, try to diversify your income if you've reached enough funds, make a website, online store/dropship, cpa, or other, or livestream.

That's right, it is not wise to leave anything to fate, every work, game, etc. has to be planned, that is the strategy.
We can't even win cricket or any other game by keeping only good players, unless the captain makes a good strategy.

That the thread creator perhaps came in the hope of referral to join under him, so he is silent because no one is justifying his point.

The biggest mistake most people make when choosing poker as a professional career and source of income is that they think because they have been playing it for a while with friends or every weekend at the casino that they would have no problem in being a successful Pro Poker player. This is where they are wrong almost everyone knows how to play poker and being good at it doesn't guarantee anything to be a professional poker player you need to be way better than average and even good players andhave the ability to make tough decisions at the right time

Well quitting your job to play poker is really a bad ideal to me most especially if you are in my country because I do not think playing poker will give you much money to settle your house responsibility and settle your bills but balance the both, doing your job and playing poker to earn money will help alot and make you save more.

You never the reason why you abandoned your business or job for the gambling that suits you.
You could have managed both your job and see how it could help earn a better life.
If actually you are addicted to gambling, it will be very difficult to survive and have good livelihood.
Better you change your mind and take up a good job....

I won't advise anybody to quit job to engage in any form of gambling. This is because gambling as it may be is not a sure way of making money, so it is not to be rely on as a source of income. Though, poker games may not be totally considered a gambling because it is to be learnt and analyzed, I can still quit job for it.

Sometimes when we make some decisions and feel good about them. It doesn't mean we took the best decision, most times it always come back and hurt us.
I think this is one of such unfortunate decision. I just hope you made good money and savings to take care of your bills and that of your family. Because most people who took the same step as you don't tell good story...

I just realized that everything is a risk. Having a business doesn't guarantee profit every time, having a paid salary doesn't mean that we may not be sacked or the organization gets folded up. So if the poster has made his decision under rational condition, he may not regret it.

Making such decision to leave your job for poker gambling is a wrong decision you made. Moreover you do not have to leave your present job for gambling because you could equally do your job while you play your poker game.
I do not see any interference happening between the two of them. So it is better you up a new job....

Quitting your sales job for poker is something I don't know how to describe. Well you know your experience with your sales job and how painful it was to you. We might complain about your decision but you know better. Some jobs are really stressful. My only advice to you is, if you make some money from poker, invest it into another reliable business.

I don't really think it was a right idea leaving his present job for poker. There maybe other businesses he could venture other than poker game or any form of gambling.
Gambling are addictive and can be destroy ones career if not handled properly....

That's great that you've been finding success in poker like that, but at the same time it's so incredibly important to keep in mind how easy it could be to just lose all that progress at once, whether through a losing streak or you betting all of your money away. This lifestyle & income source could easily become an addiction without enough guidance and understanding on the subject. I feel like there could have been a much better solution to just simply use the extra money from gambling and use it to get certificates in order to put on your resume to get a better job, or better yet use the extra money you have with gambling and put it to some sort of emergency/savings fund in order to multiply your winnings even more and keeping yourself covered with some sort of safety net.

If you really do decide to continue with this sort of lifestyle, please please please be careful with how you handle this, because all of your money, all of your work could easily come crashing down with just one careless mistake or accident.

Please if you are reading this, if you still didn't lose all money you had, at least invest into some crypto coin and be at least 10% safer, because that mate, that wasn't a good move

According to him, he's living a better life now. I'll only advice him to use the money to start another side business that'll be fetching him some money like a reliable passive income stream. One thing is certain about gambling. Tables always turn. Gambling is not something guaranteed to be giving you money always. The loosing days can begin anytime.

If he thinks the gambling are a better option for him . That is his own decisions and there are nothing absolutely anyone could do about it.
Just as you rightly said, let him make use of the money he happens to make from such trade to avoid any regrets tomorrow....

I believe that a happy life is not based on making money through luck, considering that luck is relative. You should look for a stable job where you can learn something, develop and have a respectable performance. I think if you play games of chance you don't use your mental skills and powers at all, you let yourself get carried away by luck. It seems simple to us to play, sit for nothing, and win money, but it's not like that, you will win a few times but in most cases it's a big loss that causes addiction.
