When the lock downs begun I was working in sales. You know the deal - minimal wage plus a commission, but since there were so few customers I was not making enough money to cover my basic expenses.
My anxiety went trough the roof and at one point I thought, I would have to move back with my parents. Not that it's the worst thing on the planet, but if you are a guy in his 20s living mommy and daddy is not a dream situation.
At that time all I did is complained about my situation, which didn't exactly make me very popular with other people.
However a friend took pity on me and invited me to join a team play poker chat room he was in. I told him that I don't even know how to play poker, but he convinced me to give it a try. Team play is when couple of people sit on a table and share with each other what cards they have, and they play as a team against the rest of the players on the table.
I was doing pretty well, but the summer came and many of the restrictions got lifted and my regular job picked up. Standing on your feet 8 hours a day trying to sell a person something that they probably don't want and most likely don't need is a joyless existence. On top of that I started making more money from the poker than my ""real"" job. So last October I decided to quit and just play poker.
To be honest I've never been more happy in my life. I feel free and in control for the first time. I just wanted to vent a little and share my experience(maybe brag a little).
If you have any questions leave them in the comments bellow and I will try to answer to the best of my abilities.

I quit my job to play online poker

Quitting your job to play online poker full-time can be a risky decision, as it's not guaranteed to be a sustainable source of income. Here are a few things to consider before making such a decision:

  1. Income stability: Online poker can be a volatile source of income, and there's always the risk of losing money. It's important to have a backup plan or savings in case your poker income is not consistent.
  2. Skill level: Your ability to make money from online poker will depend on your skill level. If you're not already an experienced and winning player, it's important to be realistic about your chances of success.
  3. Time commitment: Playing online poker full-time...
That was a foolish decision, poker or any kind of gambling is not a mean of earning an income, it is a mean of losing money, even if you win, you cannot keep winning.
What is the proof that you really make money from poker?
Are you earning by sending referrals to any poker like this?

you dont have a clue what your talking about. playing poker for a living is very feasible & very profitable. especially how they are playing. ganging up on the other player & playing together.

poker rooms know this trick. just dont get caught. but if everybody uses a good vpn & always signs in from the same geo location, more or less, your fine. i know of others who have done this for yrs & made a very decent living. if i could, i would be doing the same.

good luck to you & happy profits. just take care who knows what you are doing. the less the better. dont ruin a good thing by bragging too much.

I have heard people from normal casino websites make lot of money from poker , they also invited me to a poker site. But it seems poker is not so famous or is banned in some parts of our country. I never tried poker though I know it's about the luck factor once again. Maybe earning money from inviting referrals to poker sites is the most common thing players do.

poker does depend on a bit of luck. but dont be mistaken, poker is a game of skill. aa lot of skill & mental mathematical calculations. if you think poker is a game of luck, your wrong. maybe the machine poker but live poker is very much a skill set. it also depends on which poker game you are playing. but all poker games are skill based.

That's good to hear. This is what I reckon makes poker stand different from casino games or slots which purely depend on luck. Do you know any trusted poker sites that accept players internationally? I would not regret trying to learn poker by risking small amount of money since skill is the main thing required in this game.

there are many reputable poker sites. just do a google search & pick the top 5 - 7 sites that pop up. then see if they accept the country your from. the top poker sites risk now a days too much money & fame to be shady. you can also watch poker tournaments on your tube, the highlights to see the best sites.

i used to play a bit online some yrs ago. if you do play on line, get the best hand calculator you can find. for the poker style you are going to play. there are only 2 or 3 really good hand calculators. EVERYBODY playing online uses hand calculators & the poker sites allow them. the game moves too fast to play without a hand calculator.

That's awesome you're the first person I've seen with a good outcome on their gambling career. You must be very lucky and i think you did the right choice because it makes you happy than your previous job. Unlike you im not really a huge risk taker quite unlucky with gambling aswell so i can never do this

the thing with poker, its a calculated gamble. you have the odds, outs, your winning percentage, hand strength, among other things. then you can always bluff or fold. there are fish or rock solid players. its not like craps, roulette or black jack, where those games are really gambling or chance. with the casino house edge. even thou you can play craps to up your chances of winning, roulette is beatable if you find a biased table & in black jack you can card count, as long as you dont get caught.

i was a taxi driver when i meet some guys who 1st turned me on to online poker. they were in their 20´s & making some good money. they were also playing together as a team to beat other players & bet into the pot. to make it bigger. i did ok playing for about a yr & then i changed computers to a mac. at that time there were no hand calculators for macs, so i stopped playing.

Got me curious, how can you bluff in an online poker game? That's cool i think yeah i watched a movie before about poker and you need to be quite smart with strategies to win.. im quite not sure how though. Where do you guys play? Would love to check it out maybe learn too

I don't think that it is good idea to quit a job. Playing poker can bring income, but also you can lose. As for me, you always need to have a source of income for safety net.

how can you bluff in an online poker game?
by raising or re raising. or if you checked previously & someone has bet into you, you raise them. you increase the pot that way. hop onto youtube, you will find many videos there about playing online poker. also live poker tournaments, high stakes. i like to watch the highlights or when somebody goes on tilt & loses it.

Alright thanks man, i will go watch some videos on YouTube about that. That's interesting didn't think that was possible and there's a trick lol. Hopefully i learn it works in offline pokers too yes? If it does i will ask my friends to play with me lol

First of all my greeting to you that you can make money by playing poker but the problem is not with poker its about quitting job because even if you are a good player don't forget that you may lose everything in a blink of eye , so my advice to you is be back to work and play poker also and any other kind of gambling on online games , no problem its ok , whatever don't be rush to quit your job because you are good in playing .

I can't blame you for not wanting to stick with your sales job - it is a very tough and often unfair field to work in and the pay isn't always great. However, this sounds quite risky to me. How do you know you can keep this up and keep winning? How do you know you won't end up losing a lot of money? Because the thing with gambling is that you have no control over these things.

It's a risky decision, but it's your life, so live it the way you like it. Many people are stuck and feeling like zombie because they are only living in order to survive. While, I'm not a fan of gambling, I understand that depressive situation when the OP here is facing a dead end job.

i agree, go out & do what you deem best for your life. the thing about playing online poker, is you can do it in your free time at the beginning. you dont have to quit your job or make any drastic life changing moves, for the moment. 1st see how you like it & see how well you do.

another heads up. fridays & sat nights are the best time to play. especially against eastern european countries. russian ukrain, bulgaria, etc. reason being is that they get drunk as a skunk & play real money. also any time zone is good to play fri & sat nights, for the same reason. look for fishes & play like a rock. a good hand calculator will tell you how people are playing, past & present.

Having an offline job that you don't like is really bad. Especially if you don't enjoy it yet what you earn is just a small amount. It pushes you to try other things even if it involves gambling. I wonder if you can rally earn constantly while playing poker. It seems like it has so many risks but I am glad that it worked out great for you.

playing poker is pretty much statistics, probabilities, having a good memory & some luck. even thou poker is considered gambling, the better player you are having what i mentioned above, increases your odds on being a winner. its also very important to know when to fold.

i mentioned before that there are times during the day or week when its best to play. also a good hand calculator is a big must. everybody uses them. i highly recommend - iholdem indicator. google it. i used it before. 1 of the neat features is that it has a history of players & classifies them. so if your up against a fish, you bet hard into them. if your up against a rock, you fold or play more conservatively. you can get it for free by signing up at a poker site using their referral. you also have 4 or 5 different indicators for the different games of poker.
