I think you can verify your account if it is still active.I have read somewhere,somebody has forgot about his Google Adsense,and when he got email,that he has payment to receive,he was very surprised...your account might be still active.

YouTube dramatically changed their monetize rules; now 1000 subs and 4000 hours watch time in previous 12 months is necessery for channel to remain eligible for monetization. This is going to be much worst for new youtubers.

Yes,those type of videos are very popular on Youtube.I love too watching song videos of my favorite artists.I have seen many song videos having even million of views,so yes it is worth uploading those type of videos having copyright etc.
