So, recently a friend of mine wants to build a file storage or file hosting site like uploaded.net e.t.c. So, he has managed all the scripts and has done all the development but he and I are confused whether we should go for the cloud hosting or virtual private server hosting?
If you guys have countered such thing. It will be highly appreciated if you share your experience with us along with your suggestion that which one will suite better for our file storage site.

I remember making use of the owncloud server which can be used in such use case. I'd recommend you to try out the open source version of the owncloud in case if you want to go with self hosting model. You can also use the hosted for you model where you have to pay for the subscription.

For website like this you should be using AWS or Azure, most hosting providers will charge you a ton of money of space. one way i sto get a dedicated server fitted with lot's of storage ( done that in the past ) but expensive. AWS and Azure is scaleable and fairly inexpensive per GB.

It's either build your own server with high capacity storage or cloud storage, preferable the enterprise level like Amazon Cloud or Microsoft Azure to get started. You'll eventually have to serve an insane amount of bandwidth, so don't forget to do daily backup too, preferable automated with a script or other means. Good luck.

For files better way is to use cloud services. I am using google cloud store from years for documents and I have never had any problems in it. It is free to use and every google user can use it too. You can share your files from links inside it.
