What is VanityGen?
VanityGen is an open source software used to generate vanity bitcoin address. Remember if you create a wallet it comes out as rubbish randomized letters starting with either 1 or 3. Now this freeware will help you create readable btc address based on your username or chatnick you want.
How Does It Look Like?
It doesn't look that much for it runs on command prompt or dos command only.
When you've downloaded the program from it's official download site only, just decompress or unzip it in your favorite folder and then run
VanityGen 1usernamedesired and it will generate based on the complexity of your username usually the least characters you feed on it, the fastest it can create, like my bitcoin address was created in 15 minutes some will be created in years.. so if you really need a very complex name, you need to have run it on a vps or dedicated server.
All you need to have is an online or offline btc address where it accepts the private key and you can access your new address.
I use Electrum to get my address, because it will spit out 2 output, your finished btc address and you private key, then you import your private key via electrum using wallet -> import private key.
It looks difficult but it's easy there are others out there like the online method which emails corrupted results so it's useless and cant even display or print the right private keys for your address and some btc addresses needs your bitcoin payment which is risky. Always start with 1.

PROS and CONS:
PROS :
- it looks cool because your btc address carries your brand name, company name or even your username on it.
CONS:
- I don't see any cons with it, for as long as remember always protect your private keys it's for your eyes only, once someone gets ahold of your private key, then they can withdraw your bitcoin, it's like password that you generate or create new one every now and then.
Who Needs This?
Everyone dealing with bitcoin should be using this. Soon enough all letters will be exhausted because of the demand for new btc address, someone creates new btc address for every transaction which is the recommended practice to make it more secure and more anonymous and time will come when we will be using 1, 3, 2,4 as btc address prefix. But so much for anonymity if you use this tool, however, that's why it's called vanity! Because of this opensource little software, you are able to create vanity btc address for yourself without paying.
