Textbroker is a content writing site that any freelance writer can join. In my books, this is more of a content mill that you will be writing articles for the site for a low pay. Well, anyhow the site has different types of jobs opening for in-house and freelance writers. You can also look at the site if you're interested in becoming an Editor, you're an Author, a Freelance Writer, or you'd like to become a Client Service Representative or even an Author Service Representative. They even have jobs for Account Managers. Most people just join this site as a freelance writer, so they can earn a few dollars with their skills.

Textbroker Reviews.jpg

This site is only for a freelance writer that lives in the United States only. You must be 18 years of age or older to join this site. When you join, the site requires you to submit a photo ID and a W9 tax form to them.

How It Works:
  • To become a writer on the site, you'll need to register with the site and complete the author registration form first. The site only accepts US citizens who are 18 years of age or older, a photo ID and your W9 tax form when you register on the site. You'll need all this in order to complete the authors' registration form.
  • If you have a field of expertise this needs to be added to the form. They are looking for people in different fields and this is a good way to get hired on.
  • After completing the application process, you'll be given a test that you must complete. The test will be a writing assignment on a subject the site has chosen.
  • You must write up the assignment and submit this to the company. If you want to work here and earn money, then treat this assignment like it was a job.
  • After the test, the company will get in touch with you. Normally this takes around a week to see if you've passed the test or failed.
  • If you've passed the test it is now time to fill out your writer's profile on your account. It is so important that you do this and also you should pay very close attention to the section about general information. This is how you'll be selected for writing assignments.
  • Now go and search on the site for an assignment that you want to write. You'll have 24 hours to complete this assignment and upload it to the site.
  • The client has the opportunity to return the assignment to you and ask you to make revisions to your work. When you take one assignment this must be completed before you can accept another one. This doesn't count for rewrites on an assignment that you've turned in.
How Are You Paid?

The site will pay on a weekly basis. You can request your money each week from your account. The site sends your money to your PayPal account. Don't worry about paying the PayPal fees, the site handles this one for you.

Does anyone here write for Textbroker? What do you think about this company?

I've got a little experience with the site, as in I've applied, submitted the required tests and passed, but as of yet I've yet to actually write anything for them and been paid.

To me, its a legitimate site but the standard required in the tests you have to do are a little high, and if you do pass then there isn't a great deal of work on there anyway.

It's definitely worth giving a go, just don't expect to be inundated with work as the opportunities for me at least have been rare to non existent up to now. Maybe you will have better luck with it though.

Ah, yes, Textbroker. I'm employed by them and get quite a bit of work, since I received 4 stars and am approaching 5.

My experience with Textbroker has been something akin to love/hate. There are times when nothing is available to write, like now, or everyone is on at the same time and jobs are snatched from underneath your clicker. As Pwarbi mentioned, the tests are a bit demanding. You do your best, get a score lower than what you probably expected, and then get stuck in the gray zone because nothing is available for your rating. Or worse, stuff is available, but it's ridiculously complicated and not worth your time.

On the love side, if you get a decent enough rating and aren't afraid to experiment with writing styles or get in contact with potential buyers, you can make quite a bit of money. It's not sustainable living, mind you, but in two weeks I've made around $70.00 from Textbroker. It's really hit and miss.

Give it a shot. You may like it. It's not like a real job that you're stuck in if you hate it.

I was actually quite pleased with the rating I received, it's just the actual work that is on there I'm finding isn't really worth doing. Maybe the more work I do on there, the more used to it I'll get, but at the moment I'm finding it hard to justify the amount of time they require for the amount of money they're offering.

Thanks a lot for you replies! ;)
I'm thinking of applying but I didn't know what to expect, so I really appreciate your insights!
I'm not sure if I'm going to apply to the english version (since there's one in portuguese, my native language) but I'm afraid there isn't really much work to do (even less than its english counterpart; it usually happens in translation)
but in two weeks I've made around $70.00 from Textbroker.
This is actually really nice, I wouldn't mind to do that in just two weeks!

Once again, thanks a lot @pwarbi and @Valerie :)

Seems to be a little bit diffucult when it comes to work with them, could you tell me about how much is the average payment of each work you complete?

Up to now from what I've seen there doesn't appear to be an average as each assignment will vary quite considerably, well, the ones I've looked at do anyway. As I said I have only a limited experience on the site, so maybe the best person to ask would be @Valerie as she seems to know how it works more than I do.

Here I'll provide a link to a site that pays you as little as 0.7 - 5.0 cents per word to write articles. This requires you to have good writing skills to gain enough stars to multiply your earnings. Not to worry once you've logged on to the site resources will be provide that will help you become better at writing and improve your earnings.

You might want to add that you also have to send them a ''sample'' article so they see how good your writing is. The minimum is 200 words.

How hard is to get hired for a certain article though? I imagine you have to fight with other candidates? I want to assess if it's worth putting my time into it or not.

Does anybody work for them and can provide more in-depth information? I'd be very grateful :)

I mostly got the low budget projects here. And that made me wonder if I should be continuing on the platform. I write a lot of content for many forums and sites. But I guess unless it's worth it, why write for literally 10 cents per 500 words type projects?

I have written for TextBroker and can confirm they do pay.

I will also say you'd make better money dragging your face over gravel and have more fun doing it. Allow me to explain.

Applying to Text Broker

For starters, the way the application process works is you submit an article to them and they assign you a rating between 1 and 5. If you are a native English speaker you will almost certainly end up a 3. You will not achieve anything above unless you are a college educated writer (in which case you're not messing around with junk-level content mills like TextBroker). There has long been a rumor that they're essentially keeping the high paying jobs for themselves but I cannot verify that one way or another beyond saying I have jumped through their hoops multiple times and never once got meaningful criticism of my writing skills which didn't conflict with their own recommendations from previous episodes. Oh, and for reasons I still don't quite understand, you cannot write below your rating level most of the time! Guess what? There's almost never any level 3 article jobs there!

Working for Text Broker Clients

If there's anything worse than the seedy, inconsistent editorial staff, it's the clients! The way the system works is they list their job, give you the topic and the parameters of the topic, list keywords that have to be mentioned, word counts, and list the price of their job. These job descriptions tend to be straight up bananas!

If you go there right now you will see some 900 level 2 jobs by a guy who wants an article with a 270-word count for right around $2.00. He wants no less than five(!) paragraphs, and even goes so far as to detail exactly what kind of content should be in each paragraph. His description is simply not feasible! He's essentially asking for a 1000-1500 word article, and the trick is that in Text Broker's submission box you literally cannot turn in a project over the maximum allowed word count. The video link he provides, which you are supposed to watch and summerise for the article itself, is broken; of course. Why wouldn't it be?

This is not just a case of one bad egg, either. This is pretty much every job on Text Broker. You'll see 200-word count articles where the keyword requirements include a phrase of 7 or 8 words which have to occur up to 8 times in the article! How can that be?! You literally cannot have an article where a single phrase makes up a third to a half of the body! It's a @&#$1*& nightmare!

The Shadiness of Text Broker

There was a time back in the glory days of content mills, before the Penguin Update changed everything (for the better, I'll add, even if it is harder for amateur slobs like me to get paid for writing now) where this wasn't the worst company to find work through. However, they have always had a seamy side.

As a first-hand example, my very first job had weird parameters that I eventually realized could not be met. I apologized to the client and removed myself from the project. Text Broker sent me money despite the fact I provided exactly zero copy to the client of any variety. I contacted them via several mediums and they just said "Oh, we'll take it back if we want it.". Are you kidding me? I can only assume the first money I "made" there was someone else's hard work.

So there you have it; one man's muddled experiences with a crappy company. Are they legit? Quasi. Do they pay? Certainly! Is it worth it? Not a chance. The client has entirely too much pull in the process and they are apparently schizophrenic because no rational person would write the types of logically impossible descriptions these people are foisting upon the writer. In the old days it wasn't so bad. Now, it is a wasteland you would be well advised to steer clear of.

Thanks Vitki for the insightful review. It seems the process is changed a lot since last we joined and used the site. I am guessing this could be because of the way their internal QA was out of control last time. And the clients were always the issue on such site. So this is nothing new though. getting a bad rating and then improving on that is not really easy. I had my share of the issues in that case.

this site is so tough and I don't think I should think about the site , I'm a writer of blogs, content etc but I'm weak in english grammar.

This is completely legit paying website but they only take writers from Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom. That's what I heard and that's what I read. All reviews I read were absolutely positive. I also read they pay good and if you are native to any of there countries, certainly try to apply for the job.

well i had an account with iwrite but this one something new you've found, you can make a google search for having review or contact the site about their payment system and their plan and programs.

I think that iWrite is a completely different website, but it is open for the international users.
I tried that one too, but the orders for articles are so weird.
They also ask for many keyword combinations that can't be structured into a sentence in any natural order.
I take that many clients are not from the English spoken countries and I saw too many refused articles, so I don't participate there.

she said that she found this site like iwrite so i reply to her about it, even I'm not sure the site she is talking about, she should wait or make a google search to find more about the site she is talking about.

Yes, it is fine, I think they are similar.
But, I think there is a difference, still not sure about this information.
In TextBroker the members of staff review and rate, while in iWrite we get ratings from the clients.

Textbroker and iwriter are different. Textbroker have two units, one is in US and another is for EU zone. So international users tend to get accepted at the EU zone. the price in US based site is good and EU based site is low. So the experience shared by people here will be different. You can check out with each one of them though. I am sure to tell you that it'd be different for each one of them in that casse.
