Recently I've decided to rebrand my webmaster forum and for this I had to change my domain name, there was already a lot of pages indexed by Google, some of them were also ranking on 1st page and sending traffic.

How to tell Google you are moving your site to a new domain?

You must follow these steps:
1. MOVE site content to the new domain
2. ADD the new site to Search Console and verify it.
3. USE the Change of address tool from Search Console
a. 301-redirect from your old URL to the new one
b. choose your preffered version with/without www. for the new site

This is very useful and helpful. I have several blogs. Sooner or later I would be renaming them for a reason. And this would be what I am doing so that my existing traffic, followers, subscribers wouldn't be misplaced or misdirected. Instead, they would be redirected to the new one. Thank you, again.

If you are moving your site to a new domain, there are several steps you can take to inform Google and help ensure that your site's traffic and search engine rankings are not impacted negatively:
  1. Update your sitemap: Update your XML sitemap to reflect the changes to your site's URLs. Submit the updated sitemap to Google via the Search Console.
  2. Implement 301 redirects: Use 301 redirects to redirect traffic from your old URLs to your new URLs. This will help ensure that visitors to your site are redirected to the new domain, and that any link juice from incoming links is passed on to the new domain.
  3. Update your internal links: Update any internal links on your site to point to the new URLs on the new domain.
  4. Notify search engines: Submit a change of address request in Google Search Console. This will help ensure that Google is aware of the move and can continue to crawl and index your site.
  5. Monitor your site's traffic and rankings: Monitor your site's traffic and rankings in the days and weeks following the move to ensure that there are no unexpected drops or issues.
