As you may know, there are lots of tutorials available on the internet, so you might want to take a moment to read through them or watch them first, and then ask me here what you didn't understand about the particular blog or YouTube video that you encountered. Those are all very important parts of blogging, but if you do not have the dedication to read them and you only rely on the posts here, then you will not be able to succeed at it.
Yes it's good to even focus on traffic and build a system that generates traffic before starting a blog. This will make it easier and less stressful for the blog owner. He just needs to write articles consistently.
I do feel that having a forum would be more work and more expensive though. You have to moderate and look for users actively as opposed to blogging.
Forum to me looks simpler. You only need to have a moderator or may be two moderators. A forum owner is not the one writing topics online. He's only monitoring what the users are writing. Though, to be frank, it is also stressful but not that stressful to me.
You don't have to worry about the content, but you have to look for a way to find new users and keep the engagement flowing. This might mean spending money on ads and other promotion strategies which you won't have to engage in if you own a blog.

Yes having a forum is more difficult to having a blog. I prefer blogging because it can be done by one person. For forums, one needs to hire moderators to help in managing threads and ensuring that spam is reduced.
Yes it's not difficult creating a blog because it's been made easy by content management softwares. However sustaining the blog with articles and building traffic is not easy and may be frustrating.
Blogging is not really easy as it's portrayed to look like. It takes perseverance to remain in it because it's competitive in nature. If you made $100 on Reddit, it's good to channel your effort towards that to earn more.
