RIFOS is a collection of protocols that facilitates the use of decentralized services by user applications. Service providers that can support both user applications and other service providers deploy protocols. Although a protocol hierarchy does not naturally exist in RIFOS, one does appear for each unique distributed application. To put it another way, some protocols may act as "support protocols" for other service suppliers in certain applications or as the primary functionality in certain other distributed systems. The developer benefits increase as RIFOS adds more protocols.
