My client recently upgraded from WordPress 3.5 to 5 recently. In between she had a lot of malware issues. It seems that if you keep the wordpress on old version for long time. You are going to face a lot of malware issues. Often those plugins give access to the backend. So it seems like it is better to upgrade the old version of the wordpress pretty quickly. So keeping wordpress on old version is pretty much bad practice.

I used succuri malware remover for the current issue. Have you ever faced the malware issue in wordpress?

No I don't have any malware issues with my Wordpress sites but most of updates is about security reasons. That is why you should always have all plugins and Wordpress updated.

I always make sure to keep my Wordpress site fully updated, in terms of the software, plugins and themes. I think it's always best to update as soon as possible because like you said, malware can become a problem if you try to stay with an old version

Yes updating the WordPress does make sense. But in the event where some clients ignore the auto updates and also don't update the plugin or themes which are expired. That can often cause the issues. I am yet to find the decent anti malware plugin for the WordPress. Hoping that if I find it I am going to install on clients website where such type of the situations happen.

That anti malware plugin should also be updated. If owner don't update other plugins, probably will not update anti malware. So still can be many problems on site, even with anti malware plugin.

Yes that is one reason I am suggesting him to move to platform like wpengine. So that they can do all of that option auto pilot way. It seems like lot better advice for that client in such case. because they want something they don't want to update for years. so having the option to auto update from the host side is lot better.

WPengine Seems very expensive. 35$ per month is not small amount especially for begginer project and only one website is allowed. Is there some cheaper solution?

Yes but then again they do everything. There are also other options like paying for jetpack plugin which is cheaper. that can also take care of the scripts update and other settings. I think jetpack plugin would be cheaper as it updates itself and also dashboard update program also works out as well.

I didn't know jet pack could to that. This invest is always good invest since it can help you, especially if your site is grow and brings you good money, like few bucks per day.

Yes. I also heard about Sucuri plugin that can work in this case. But the thing is that databackup and also auto updates when we are not around needs to be there. Something that wordpress allows for the background updates and other settings. I'd say that some plugins are a bit expensive to try out.

WordPress keeps on updating to solve all these issues like security lapse, malware, hacking attack etc so you must keep on updating your WordPress too along with all plugins but some time we have to face problem that some plugins don't work in the updated WordPress.
