A few weeks ago I was sent an envelope from Neilsen Ratings indicating that I had been chosen to participate in their TV survey program. Normally I would toss out things like this assuming it was just unsolicited junk mail. However if you get one of these in your mail, don't throw it out! When I opened it I was surprised to see they had included a couple dollars in it, as incentive to fill out and send in their brief TV survey, along with a self addressed postage paid envelope.

Also, if you are participating in this, and start getting calls from 1-813-366-9800, from what I've read online, that is Nielsen. I got a few calls from this number over the past few days, and almost added them to my reject list thinking it was some telemarketer. I regret not answering the calls now, because some folks mentioned they were doing additional paid surveys over the phone.

Ok, so a quick follow up to this post. Shortly after posting this (like within an hour or so) I got another call from them again. They called me to confirm my contact and mailing address again, as well as to ask a few quick questions about my demographic and employment information. Long story short, they want to send me a TV viewing diary for me to fill out and send back to them. Basically they want me to log everything I watch for some given period of time, then send it back to them in a prepaid envelope they provide. They also stated that they will do another follow up call with me to see how things are going. In exchange for my efforts, they said they are also going to include $5 with the TV viewing diary they are sending me, as compensation. Not a bad deal for a quick $5 if you ask me. And I like that they pay you up front and trust in good faith that you will mail the info back to them.

There is also a Nielsen survey company here for the ratings on tv. But from what I heard, they use the phone for surveying - landline only. Detractors of Nielsen say that their method is not as effective as the other survey group because they can only survey those with phone lines. So that means the class of society that was surveyed was limited to those landline phone owners which does not represent the society in general.

Just came across with the information of the existence of the Nielsen Mobile Panel that is nothing more than installing an app in our iPhone, use the phone normally, and earn $50 per year. Not much right, but better than nothing! Anyone doing it?

I started to try it yesterday. Didn't finish registration cause asked my C/C Acct. Tried to then log in cause asked me to finish my registration. I did again try to log in. Still can't. Also it says I have the app, I dont. And only let's me use Bing to do "anything". Waiting now for support on issue.

I went through and added the app for the Nielsen mobile panel to my mobile and thats when things went horribly wrong for me. My mobile would not connect to the internet and i could not send texts. I ended up spending Friday night at the Apple store and it was amazing there was a 2nd profile on my mobile stopping me from accessing internet etc. For $50 per year and my time spent fixing the nonsense i would say dont touch

Nielsen is a reputable company not just with surveys but also tracking down music sales. In our country, Nielsen partnered with AGB in conducting surveys for TV ratings. It is one of the survey thingy I want to take part to. Hopefully, I am able to be chosen in such. However, survey results is not that accurate unless they will also conduct in-person surveys to people who doesn't have access to the internet so they can conpletely claim it is the pulse of the majority.
