I could remember in those days businesses basically use the newspaper to advertise their businesses and products. So when people read those they will see the business advertisement and anyone interested can contact them. Many people patronize them using this medium.
But things are changing now, this is 2023 and the number of people reading the newspapers physically is gradually decreasing. So I want to ask if that method is still effective?
I know someone who wants to make use of an advertisement section of a newspaper to promote his business. Should I advise him against it and tell him to channel the money to another medium?
 
To some level, advertising with newspaper is still pretty much effective though not everyone reads the news papers. I believe using the newspaper should be based on your target audience. If your target audience are youths, trust me it would be completely useless to use newspapers.
 
You are absolutely right. Using newspapers for advertising can only be effective if your target audience is active newspaper readers. If your target audience is young people, then it is better to use other marketing channels, such as social networks or video hosting. Yeah, a lot of people still get their news from newspaper, they still get some eyeballs but as nearly as much as before and I'll only advise advertising on newspaper if what you are offering appeals to the older generation, current generation are more into social media and internet generally.

You have a point. It is rare to see many youths or Young one pick up a newspaper to read. After all the news it's something they can access using their phones. But if the business is targeted at the older ones then I believe the newspaper will still not be a bad idea.

Yeah, If your target audience is old people then way to go and it seems like they will trust it more because it relates to them better.

But I believe even at that , one should still try out digital advertisement because it has higher ROI and can be automated with less work.

To be frank, there have been reduction in the way people make use of the newspaper and advertisments but it doesn't mean that people are still not using it. It is still reliable and relevant means to get people to buy our products and services.
