Do you have a health and safety policy in your business? If so, what are some of your policies on health and safety to keep employees safe in the work place? I don't own a business but on the top of my head an idea would be employees take the day sick if they are sick to avoid other staff getting ill.

A good employer would take the safety and health conditions of his or her workers seriously. If a worker falls sick ofcourse the job wouldn't be done.So the employer must provide health insurance, there should be sick leave for employees that are sick maybe with little compensation or a health service provided by the employer.

Safety measures depends on the nature of business you are in to however if the manufacturing I will ensure my workers are always kit up with their personal protective equipment to prevent accident and I will also provide first aid box for immediate response.

It is of utmost importance for employers to take precautions to ensure the safety of their employees. If an employee gets injured due to an employer's negligence then he will be liable in a court of law for breaching the terms of the contract of employment and will have to pay for damages. I think that employers must regularly check if everything is in place. They can employ a health and safety officer to help them with that. When we talk about health and safety it is not just about someone falling sick. It is about all the precautions you are taking to actually prevent accidents from happening at work.

    Sick days what is that.
Those things are only in a normal, fulltime job. I dont see any of us having a company with full time paid employees.
When I need stuff done I use one of the thousand of freelancer sites and pick someone there. But I never paid a full European salary. Never had to pay for sick days either. I dont know many that could offer that.

People forget that being sick doesn't have to be 1 day, it can be weeks, or months. If you cant afford that you cant afford employees.

Health and safety with me means the moment you are not healthy and safe I need to find someone else to write articles. No sick pay or anything like that because Im broke as hell too. All money goes back into my projects.

I think the discussion was mainly about offline huge businesses, because it's hard to imagine how you, for instance, could pay "sick days" to someone who is supposed to write your articles.. it is quite normal that you compute your budget for workers only and under no circumstance for someone who won't be able to work for a long period of time

Health and safety is more applicable to offline business cos that is where you will be dealing with people in physical terms. It is very essential for every business as it determine the profitabilty and sustainability of a business

if we're talking about small offline businesses or (any) online business, it is quite clear that we can't even talk about it because the budget is limited. this only applies to huge businesses in which the other employees gain enough profit to sustain the sick employee who's struggling to get well as soon as possible

I think safety and health issues in the business are mostly related to the cashflow. And that means some of the time we have to be taking things a bit more serious. And if you can handle some of such issues then surely it would be possible for things to work around in the business as well.

Of course, health care is very important. I will never work for a company which do not provide health insurance like free days for the one who are sick or even a health service provided by the company, it depends on the work that is done there.

Regardless the nature of the job every organization are suppose to adhere to occupational health and safety rules, ordinalry one is not suppose to be seated for six hours without changing position cos little things like this gradually affect our health status unknownly

As a freelancer, and most of the time I am working alone or just with another partner, we don't have any health and safety policy. This never came across my mind as we are programmers, perhaps this doesn't really applicable to us. In my previous companies that I worked for, I really didn't know if there was such policy too. We have health care benefit, but there is no such policy that we should take a sick leave when we are sick, though we are encouraged to do so.

Money should not come first cos it is when you are healthy that you can make money remember that health is wealth except you dont belive in that adage
