Should I focus more on building dofollow backlinks or nofollow backlinks for my website?

What is Nofollow backlink? Google bot will never crawl that backlink and don't pass any link juice.

While Google bot don't follow these links others spiders will do it and you should create them without problems, there's no harm, they actually are good because brings you tons of traffic to your website if placed well.

I think this whole scene with no-follow and do-follow is dead nowadays with Google. Google, at the least, isn't paying attention to forum signatures and blog commenting and, at the worst, is penalizing for such backlinks. Note, though, I go with the first scenario. I think they are neutral. In that case, as @Hera mentioned, such backlinks might bring in a lot of traffic.

Anyhow, the reason this topic is brought up is cause it used to be a big thing with Google. However, as with other things, too many people abused the situation and now the no-follow and do-follow strategies do not massively help SEO.

Google does not care about dofollow and nofollow anymore. As long as you have the links coming, you will have some weight. No links no weight. Having good links also counts. 10 bad links < 1 good link. So not every link is meant to be same in the eyes of google. You have to understand that some of the time backlinks may work in your favor and some of the time it just don't work at all.
