A library is a place that people go and read or carry out research works.

We have a building in a very good and serene environment and I was thinking of setting up a public library.

Though the idea may not be just having a physical books in the shelves but with internet facilities that can help people to carry out research works.

Though the plan is to charge people some money. It could be monthly or weekly it all depends.

Another factor is that, do people really love to read?
Will there be patronage from people?

We have a local public library in here. I think it is one of the oldest libraries out there in our area. However, you have to pay a fees if you want to get access to it. This is why there are many people who visit the library and read books there. I think you can also purchase membership in there. Having said that, the library is owned by the government.
That mainly depends upon the country and culture you are in. In first tier country, this is still a viable business venture but in tier 3 countries, wehere living is not easy, people do not prefer reading books and hence, a public library will not be a good option.
Even I know, some of free libararies got closed in our vicinity as there were very few people use to visit the libraries.

Most people do not read due to nature of their jobs and businesses. They hardly have time to patronize any public library.
So before you go about setting a library you must do your due diligence..

The quality of resource materials you have in your library will determine the level of patronage because information is key. I have a strong believe that setting such a library will be profitable if you cross your Ts and dot the Is.

The location where your library is suitated matters a lot. If it is in a school or learning environment you could see your business grow. But if it is in an urban business areas people would not patronize your business more because many of them could not afford the time to visit the library..

There is no business that is not profitable if only the business is targeted to solve some people problem. Business ideas is usually seen as a problem solver. If the library business will be located in a place where the people who leaves there are book lover

Setting up a library around a university campus will be a profitable venture as most students would like to use the center for research purposes. But when you set up a library around areas that people do not fancy books and reading it might not be profitable..

Public library if established with the purpose of profit making can cause some set back as most people would not like to pay before they use them. But it has its own way of promoting the culture of reading and research for people who live around such facilities..

This actually depends on your location, not everyone goes to libraries this day since almost everyone has a smartphone to access and download ebooks to read rather than going to a library.
I'd say that libraries are not actually opened to make profit but to aid the education sector of a community.

Most people in some communities do not have reading culture, so establishing any library in those locations could not produce any good results. Library should be built in areas where people are able to make good use of them to achieve results..

Public library can be lucrative essentially when you are selling a membership to the people. This can only be good in a place where a lot of people like reading and develop a good reading habit. Public library is not profitable in a place where there is a prevalence of illiteracy.

Exactly, setting up such a public library could be very profitable when you consider the environment. You are more likely to make profit when they are located in environment where people loves to read, makes research and carry out projects. This is how profit can be made..

Location is very important when you want to set up a public library. If you set up the library in a wrong location there is high chances that the business will flop and you are not going to make profit at the end of the day.

Every business owner would always like to make profit from their investment. Therefore in setting up a library for profit making, it must be located in a strategic location where the people are always in need of books for research and other benefits. If it is not well located it might not make profit..

Here, location will be a determinant factor in the success of the library. Other factors to be considered
  • the space required for the library.
  • Initial investment for the books
  • Initial investment for the furniture
  • Recurring cost for magazines and journals
  • Recurring monthly costs (such as emplees pays? etc.
Keeping in view the above, I do not thing the library will be a profitable business nowadays. Why? If you can find a thing by searching the Internet, why would you go to a library to find that info. Unless, the library owner sets up some rewards or BRANDS the library, chances of profit are minimum.

I still believe that there are some materials that you can find exclusively in library. Also most people looks for a quiet environment where they can sit and study, away from family and children. So library are still very important..

I'm not sure people will pay to use a library these days when they can search freely online. And how many really read books for fun nowadays with cellphones and streaming? It's a nice idea but might not be profitable. You'd need lots of advertising to get customers. Better to consider alternative uses for the building that people are more likely to pay for in this digital age.

We must always give it a trial, most people believe setting up a public library won't be profitable. But they forget easily that there are still public library around them where students and other like minds usually visit to have some quiet time to read books..

i think While it may be true that physical public libraries may not be as profitable compared to other businesses, it is important to recognize the significance of public libraries and the impact they have on communities. They provide access to educational resources for individuals who may not have the means to buy

There are people who still value reading physical books and going to a serene places to study or carry out research. A library will be so good for them and they will readily patronize it. Just make sure that you charge an amount that if affordable to many.
I agree that libraries are still important for those who enjoy physical books. As long as the fees are reasonable, it should attract many patrons and keep the library running. Fewer places nowadays provide quiet space for studying too.

Libraries are great for the community. Not everyone can buy every book so being able to access the library will be helpful. As long as the library sticks to its purpose and doesn't try making profits, then reasonable fees sound fair. People will support something that benefits everyone.
