Dubai Customs has announced a change to the duty residents must pay on goods purchased internationally, which means residents will pay less for their purchases. Dubai Customs reversed its previous decision about the duty threshold, so any goods imported with a value of less than AED1,000 are now exempt from the fee. The previous threshold for exemption of parcels/shipments was AED300, making products bought for between AED300 and AED1,000 cheaper. This decision came into effect on March 1, 2023, until further notice. However, from January 1, 2023, tobacco, tobacco products, e-cigarettes, and nicotine liquids of any value are subject to 200% customs and excise tax.
