In France EMI are regulated to make sure digital money is safe and stable. EMIs issue electronic money a digital form of value used for payments.

To become an EMI you need approval from the French Prudential Control and Resolution Authority ensuring financial health and following rules against money-related crime.

Once approved EMIs are regularly checked to keep following the rules. The goal is to encourage new payment idea while keeping people and finances secure.

Within the French financial system, EMIs can issue only electronic money and manage same as stored in electronic wallets. They can be used to transfer funds through electronic platforms and also pay bills. They can't perform traditional banking activities like giving of loans and issuing out investment programs.
