A Mexican Youtuber named Abraham Loera Acosta has been sentenced to 50 years in jail for kidnapping a woman and then asking for $100000 in BTC in exchange for releasing the woman. He was a very smart and intelligent guy; good with technology and stuff but the authorities were able to track him down by tracing the bitcoin transaction.

The blockchain ledger keeps the records of every transactions in each wallet and with KYC in place one the address is matched it will come with details. Bitcoin is not completely annoymous as it is paint to be.

But there are many wallets and service providers which donot even require an email address to be connected forget an ID or KYC. They just give you the keys ir backup phrase and you have to keep it safe that's all. Can they still be traced?

You just don't know how bitcoin nor blockchain work do you? Who said wallets and service providers don't require you to submit your email? Most of them do require you to do that.

Very few mobile online wallets don't require email for registration like coinomi and jaxxz wallet but that doesn't mean their transactions can be tracked via Up address. Most of the annoymous wallet are hard ware wallet.

Well yes I am kinda new to this cryptocurrency but I am have been here for several months and I am using trust wallet which does not require any kind of email or anything

I did say that "most" of wallets and service providers don't require you to submit your email. That doesn't mean "all".

I advise you to research your subject first before commenting.

My point was still valid and I mean come on if you are kidnapping then at least that much brains ??. It is totally senseless to use some approved wallet. Besides that, giving you email is not something that gives away your identity because you can make unlimited number of emails without having to connect them to any phone number or any such identity teltales

Yeah, until you realize hackers have ways to trace and pin-point your location - like where you live - by tracing your emails - even if you have 100 emails addresses, it's still use the same principle.

You are right at Emoney guess this guy didn't know such numerous emails are created via same IP address that can easily be tracked. I believe with technology every connection on the internet can be traced except they don't want to.

Wow this is goodness . I wonder why at times I do read about bitcoin annonmity .
He actually deserved the 50 years jail sentence . kidnapping is a crime that can cause depression to the kidnapped .

I'm guessing that this mostly happened because of his reliance on anonymity of bitcoin, and although it's much safer than other methods, you would need to mask the transaction in order to have more safety. another reason this happened is possibly because of arrogancy, as some infulencers are quite arrogant.

To me

To me he wasnt smart enough to realise he would be tracked when the transactions is been made because he has a user ID where the bitcoin will be transferred to. Even if he was not caught at that particular time, definitely nemesis will catch up with him

People with this kind of criminal records should not be spared, they need to use as scape goat so that others can learn. Kidnapped person can be depressed for life

The fact is that most of these hackers will not consider nemesis , they only want something that they will gain today . What happens tomorrow doesn't border them .

Kidnapping is a terrible crime, stealing a human being and imprisoning him or her for a ransom. The sentence of 50 years in jail should have been a life sentence, as I wonder what he will be able to do in regular society if he ever gets released after spending 50 years in prison. If he ventures again into kidnapping he most certainly wouldn't think to accept bitcoin again as ransom.

It's interesting how People can't get enough and try to be content with what they have.
I'm sure he made decent money being a youtuber, anyway its good he is a place where he craved to be for crying out loud

This news is something unusual in the financial world of bitcoin but as you can see, everyone wants to have bitcoin in any transaction. Here it seems that the youtuber failed.
