A Mexican Youtuber named Abraham Loera Acosta has been sentenced to 50 years in jail for kidnapping a woman and then asking for $100000 in BTC in exchange for releasing the woman. He was a very smart and intelligent guy; good with technology and stuff but the authorities were able to track him down by tracing the bitcoin transaction.

I don't about him being smart because if he is, he would know that bitcoin transaction is not truly anonymous. Every bitcoin transaction is stored publicly and permanently on the network. Which means anyone can trace his bitcoin transaction easily. But I'm glad that he is caught anyway.

A lil bit offtopic, did you know In Romania , the corrupted politicians who stole millions of euros from the public money they get only about 3 years in jail but often they dont even go to jail at all because the justice system is corrupted as well.
Stealing millions of euros from public funds and throwing the country into poverty is equal somehow to kidnapping.
And European Union doesn't seem to care or help to much , they care most to save the planet from pollution and organic food.

Oh even I thought a Bitcoin transaction is completely anonymous. Is it really possible to track the person just by a blockchain transaction?

Since a lot of Cryptocurrency exchanges require people to provide their ID or KYC, I guess that's how the police trace his transaction online.

I think he used the Bitcoin address of an exchange which requires some kyc or id verification because that is the only way he could have been traced

It was a really heinous way of making money that he resorted to and i think that such kind of acts have a severely bad influence on the name and popularity of bitcoin

And he couldn't have earned a decent living as a YouTuber? SIGH.. We shouldn't be too greedy is the lesson here. I'm glad he was caught then. Justice is served!

I guess the YouTuber rely on the fact that bitcoin transactions are annoymous so he can't be caught, this is to shows us that the anonymity of Bitcoin is in disguise and probably it a trap to nail most dark business guys.

The taste and desires in life makes them not to appreciate the money they earn on YouTube alone they prefer to go dark to make it bigger and oppress the world.

Oppress the world maybe not lol. It's just that their earning makes them arrogant and thinks they can do anything without much consequences.

At first. That wasn't a smart move for a guy good with technology and stuff. He should have used real money not bitcoin. Bitcoin is never anonymous and way too traceable.

Friend you could tag this thread with "NEWS" rather than "ASK". Now I dont think this is a bitcoin crime cause in the same way if he asks for some large no. of rubles to play some russian games it would not be a payeer crime. But this is a hareful crime kidnapping and blackmailing both are very much bad. What was his sentence then ? Just a little fun, that guy is not a bitcoin fan definitely otherwise he could demand 1 BTC only thinking its gonna touch $100000 soon.

If bitcoin had remained annoymous there will be lots of criminal activities and scamming of people through it , it is better tracked than being anonymous.
