Can you *ucking believe that a photo by photographer Kevin Abosch with a potato was sold for €1,000,000?

Rumors says is money laundering, what do you think?

I have seen and read about some crazy and wild ebay listings, but this one goes in my top ten! I don't believe this potato was sold on ebay from what I've read, but I'm just using their buy/sell platform as an example. I can't help but to wonder if they were actually buying the bragging rights as opposed to having a real interest in the potato itself. I guess when you are rich, you run out of things to buy :)

That's really rather surprising, lol. I always hear about people getting this odd lucky breaks where they receive big money for the most unusual of things sold. I wish it would happen to me just once, I could use 1mil or even 100k, lol.

I wonder if they can still get their money back if they turn it into chips and have someone else take a photo of it? I can't believe that anyone would spend that kind of money on a potato. That's just...unless it was a write-off and they did that on purpose, I'm not sure how or why anyone would do that lol

I'm not sure about you guys, but this makes me want to go take a picture of an onion and start the bidding at $500,000 to see what I can get on Ebay.

I don't believe the potato was sold for that price and I am ready to sell a tomato for $1 and still it is huge profit for me.
The one who bought what the person will do with that potato, is it the country where he couldn't find potatoes?

I think any educated person realized that art takes it's value not just from it's immediate aesthetic appeal, but also the fame of the artist and it's place in art history.

The price paid was the artist's chosen ticket price and it not out of line with the value of his other work that is heavily collected by Silicon valley nouveau riche.

Anyone suggesting money laundering doesn't IMHO know how money laundering works. Buy something unique, and very much in the public eye, that is not how money is laundered.

I don't know but there's something fishy about this. I mean, who in the right mind would buy a photograph of a potato for €1,000,000? Unless you're someone who's super duper ultra mega rich. Even the rich people I know wouldn't buy that, Instead they would buy top of the line camera and lens and just take a photo of their own potatoes. Silly.

That's a clever move

I would say a big carrot would have more bids than an onion, you could *ucking break the $1,000,000 :D
