I see many webmasters recommend a transfer from MySql database to MariaDB. Both databases have same structure and indexes but MariaDB offer better performance than MySql and this is the most important since we all need fast loading sites.

Will you transfer your database to MariaDB?

I didn't know about MariaDB. Thank you for mentioning that. I think it's good to check it out. I will still stick to MySQL as my hosting provider has mySQL database, I am not sure about MariaDB. I'll need to find it out and learn more about this database.

You can transfer to MariaDB after your hosting provider offer that possibility. Before that you can't but many had already start offering that service unless you have your own server.

There's also Postgres. I believe many people dealing with larger datasets find postgres to be faster. I haven't tried it myself, but it'd be interesting to see if it helps.

I heard for Postgres earlier but many webhosting providers transfer database from MySql to MariaDB not Postgres. Postrgres is used mostly used for desktop softwares, I guess.

Since this thread is a year old, I hope you found someone that could help you transfer your database.

To answer those of you who started talking about PostgreSQL; it's not just used for desktop applications, but a lot of websites, including Reddit, use it as well. It's much more advanced than MariaDB (which for the record is built by the same developers that made MySQL).

It may be an overkill to use PostgreSQL in small applications that will not make use of its full power, but I recommend you check it out.

MariaDB does not seem like mature product it is just code by code copy of mysql because mariaDB team did not like the way mysql was taking shape. So mariadb is yet to completely compete with the mysql. I'd not migrate my exisitng sites to that because I personally don't consider it enough mature on that note.
