I have used 7-zip and it has been great free-file-compression software to use. Yes, I have to agree it is an good alternative that winzip. 7-zip is good but the others you have listed are still good alternatives too.

I mostly use 7-zip as an alternative if the computer I get to work on doesn't have winzip pre-installed.

Thanks for the tutorial at least we have got to learn about other alternatives though I have always known of 7-zip since is always safe and also virus free and has a very high compression rate and simple to use too.

Thank you for sharing these file compression software. I only know 7-zip but not others.

My colleague recommended me to use 7-zip a few years ago, and I have been using it since then. I like that it supports all the formats I need, and it's a free software but not just trial. I only knew winzip and winrar before using 7-zip. :p

True.

7-zip is the most lighter and complete i know.
I suggest to not use the portable version due the fact that not all computer assembling support the features of the mouse menu for it (i tried on many machines), better install in the standard way to be sure to have all the features supported.

Another program that i found very useful and complete is ZipGenius. Give it a try. Very well done and very complete.
