Freelancing is one of the difficult work that one can do these days. Because when I started working on task based freelancing. There was only fiverr and upwork. And now that upwork is extremely expensive because it even takes money from the freelancers to send the offers. So it can be pretty expensive when it comes to working on freelance projects. And fiverr is even more harder considering people bid to low amount.

So if you were to start freelance career where do you start and how do you get new clients?

Fiverr is definitely crowded and the competition is hectic but it still remains one to seriously consider. I've had an UpWork account for years but can't be bothered bidding for jobs LOL I set up my Fiverr account years ago but even then it was already saturated. Because I didn't have a portfolio or reviews, I struggled to land my first order. Just at the point where I was ready to throw the towel in and close my account, about a year after first opening the account, I finally received an order and the enquiries started flowing in.

It's definitely not easy because I find my orders are very up and down. But then again, I haven't bothered to promote my gigs anywhere, something I've been seriously considering. So far, I've earnt very good money from the platform and have great reviews across my gigs. It's just a shame that my book review one, which was the most popular and 5* rated was closed down - apparently because someone complained it was too similar to theirs:oops::rolleyes:

Someone here mentioned there were low bidders on Fiverr - that's not accurate. No bidding goes on on Fiverr. You advertise your services through your gigs, interested parties make enquiries and/or place orders, you do the work and get paid if the client's happy. Also, you can now scale up your prices, you're no longer restricted to charging $5 per order.

besides the mentionned popular freelancing platforms, you can also promote your services in social media, such as facebook, instagram or even here in BMF
Yeah, I agree with you. You don't have to only rely on freelancing sites to promote your skills. I have seen people get jobs from advertising their skills in social media sites. It actually works.

Yeah it's always great to have your hands everywhere, so you can get orders from different places, if atleast one of them won't work, the others will do

That is right. Relying on only one source not only keeps you so anxious about when you will find something to do but also makes the chances of getting it so low. It is best to rely on different sources so as to reach many clients and increase your chances.

Well, if you want to get noticed soon, freelancers can also cheat the system by paying people to write a good 5 stars review about their gig, be it on Fiverr or other freelance platform.

Wow, I didn't know you could advertise your freelancing skills here on BMF. I'll have to follow up on that one. I've always known you can share and advertise your services on social media platforms but have yet to take advantage of that purely out of laziness LOL. I should definitely be doing that for my Fiverr gigs seeing as it's gone quiet for me now.

When I initially started working on Fiverr, I had a book reviewing gig. It used to really bug me when indie authors would approach me about cobbling together 5* reviews. Some people would even ask me to write rave reviews for products I had no experience of using. That's why I'm so wary of 5* reviews and always check out whatever negatives genuine reviewers highlight.

Yup, even reviews can be bought. Not only on the freelance platform itself but also on reviews website like Trustpilot and Foxy rating. Heck, some people even go as far as paying people to paint good things about them in various forums.

It's sad really if that happens even on sites such as Trustpilot - it just makes a farce of the reviewing process and the end-user can never really be sure what's genuine and what to trust. That's also the reason I don't trust YouTube reviewers/influencers because I've heard they get sent legit merchandise that's different to what the masses buy, which is often of substandard quality. It's just horrible.

Well, actually there's something even worse that's currently plaguing Trustpilot - spam promoting scam recovery services. Encountered that kinda posts way too many times, even in the unrelated reviews.

Well, these days we can't seem to be able to get away from all these scammers - they're just everywhere! It's very annoying, to say the least. I wish there was just one button to press to block the lot of them. I never used to get a lot of junk in my inbox, now I get it every single day.

There are many freelance sites nowadays and it is very easy to find and start working on them once you have a set skill on which you can work on
how is it, easy bro? there are many workers posted their services and didn't sell anything.
finding clients is a really hard and so impossible thing especially if you will be new there (because clients only choose the old ones)

Wow, nice input, a beginner can also start from freelancer build up his portfolio and from there cross over to fiverr or upwork to further increase his/her earnings.
yeah just make your services everywhere and wait for clients to buy them, it isn't easy especially for beginners, you have to be patient

Fiverr is a good platform to start freelancing if you have a skill that is in high demand, but if nou can always try freelancer, it is good for beginner and you can send job offers.

I hear you. With Fiverr, if you're starting out and have no portfolio to show prospective buyers, it's very hard to get a foot in through the door. It's a vicious cycle because you need your first few clients to show you're great at what you do but because you have nothing to show for it, buyers tend to ignore you. Freelance sites such as UpWork don't really appeal to me because of the bidding system. And now I hear UpWork has introduced ridiculous fees, it's even less attractive to me.

Dont even talk about fivrr if you dont have skills to show or offer a client its always difficult to make even a dime with fivrr you better go and learn one skills that you will be offering on the market place, you can also chose upwork if you are new to the online earning.

Not necessarily. I mean, yes, you're right, good skills go a very long way on Fiverr. BUT one of my gigs on there doesn't really require any real skills. I offer to do things for people outside the country because they aren't here to source them directly. For instance, I had a longstanding American client who needed me to find him a house to rent as well as a warehouse to rent for a business he was launching in the country. It's not too bad of a gig at all because that particular client paid well and regularly gave me $50 tips and 5* reviews.

Making a headway in freelancing for beginners is not very easy especially on fiverr and upwork but I believe if you standout and very good in your skill, it won't take long to make a headway.
of course if you are given perfect services for the clients, of course you won't wait for long time and you will be famous there

You are talking some sense into somebody head if you are a beginner in freelancing then you need to get a coach that can help you with what you are not familair with thou when I started my online earning nobody guide me for that but have it in mind that everybody can never be the same.
