Freelancing is one of the difficult work that one can do these days. Because when I started working on task based freelancing. There was only fiverr and upwork. And now that upwork is extremely expensive because it even takes money from the freelancers to send the offers. So it can be pretty expensive when it comes to working on freelance projects. And fiverr is even more harder considering people bid to low amount.

So if you were to start freelance career where do you start and how do you get new clients?

I have Always preferred self advert on different platforms than on freelancing sites.i just want to handle everything from start to finish on my own without a limitation from any site.

If your skills are in webmaster area, try webmaster forums. Maybe somebody hire you as worker in some team at bigger project. Also be active at github and make your portfolio there.

I'm still new to a lot of online things, I just find out a site called upwork Alot of freelancing goes on there. So you are try your freelancing skills there.

fiverr , freelancer , all of these are your way to start even if you're new , i know it's kinda complicated to get clients when there are ton of freelancers with positive feedbacks , but you have to offer services for a lower price than the other freelancers till you manage to find some clients and collect feedbacks , then you can edit the prices on your own

i think they already enumerated all, what's left for me is your own website. set up your own www. domain name and perhaps a blog of wordpress and then tell the whole world that you are a freelancer. start from there.

my friend it's better to be positive at all times specially when you're on a business like this online and also positivity welcomes positivity as well since you can accommodate a lot of customers.

You are right, my dear friend, the work in the Internet has become a very difficult things in our time where multiple sites and increased the number and decreased sales in all sites because of the multiplicity of sites and it became difficult to excavate on the best site, but tried to go to the most used site

yes that's right my brother, you have to learn some set of skills.
these skills will be noticed by employers or outsources in most freelancing websites and they will always hire you because they know your skill sets.

By the way, it is a must that you have some skill specialization. I just noticed that some freelancers just throw their selves doing everything, I am not saying that it was bad but I think you can easily market your self if you have some focus on a certain skill. Goodluck!

@overcast i agree on freelancer competition between users has increased , but still odesk , mechanical turk , fiverr are good alternatives you need to be patient and consistent to be succesful in this work

There are lot of freelancing sites in the internet like freelancer , upwork and many other legitimate freelancing opportunities , you can try upwork.

Make your own website with your offers, use seo to rank it. You can also use xrumer to mass send your offers through contact forms. But don't spam. Just write what you can do, and ask for reply if they are interested. I did this and it works

I think it is all about patience and hard work. three years ago, I started to work on Freelancer and I got soem clients there. But I remember I had to bid for at least 50 projects before getting the first one, and I sometimes I got more than a project at the same time.

I saw some people using Facebooks groups
Enter to enterpeneurs groups and offer them your job and how much
I saw so much people make money from that

Freelancing career is a good one but not for people without passion, a freelancer should be very creative, skillful and focus, as difficult as most people see fiver or upwork people are still making money from cos they are have secret, skills and passion. Freelancing career can start on any platformbut you need to be skillful in your area if interest, focus and sell your self.

I got some clients from Upwork, the payments are fair but too bad Upwork charges 20% and since last year they made freelancer buys token to bid proposal whereas previously we got limited free tokens per month. But so far Upwork is still the best platform for me personally due to lack of choices.

Since it is the best platform ,it will definitely want to every thing good to keep making jobs available so part of the effort might be the 20% charges .

Depending on what kind of work do you do. If it isn't something serious then Fiverr, it's quite cheap though.

you are very correct to be sincere upwork is the best place for you to sell your freelancing skills and bid for jobs you can complete,I have been using their website for sometime now and am making good amount of money from upwork,but you need some skills to be among their workers you cant hust wake up without skills and feel you can make money with upwork.
