HI fellow BMFers !
I have some questions about site that give free domain names :
are there really such sites ?
if they do , then what's the catch , are they really free or will you have to pay aafter a while ?
I read that the .tk domains were free but then I read elsewhere that they are blocked on facebook !
so if anyone has some infor about this , please share and thanks in advance

Yes, .tk is free but there is something that you can not show it professional. Because this is free many people get it and spam it on social site, so the facebook blocked it. Similar happened to other free domain name providers...

I used to get those for my initial websites, thinking I will get huge traffic because of such a short domain name. But search engines are smart enough to catch your tricks. (.co.nr, .co.nf, .co.cc, biz.ly and others...)

Free top-level domain name
There are really free domain names provided by web hosting service providers. These are top-level, like .COM, .IN, .US (possible region based mostly).

.COM is given free becasue you hardly find a special domain name for you, becasue this is the one very highest to used by many and the companies.
Also, region-based domain names are given by the hosts to promote it.

There is catch (are they really free)
Unlike .tk or others .COM or other domain provided by the hosts is not really free. YES, domain name is free but you have to get the hosting plan and the domain name is given free for a year. And the renewal will be as usual for the regular cost.

Look for the plans before you purchase, the offers will be displayed if there are any free domain names for that plan or not.

You can get free .design domain at Porkbun domain registar. I don't know is it exploitet yet by spamers but it can be good to sites from images and photography niche.

With blogspot subdomain name we shouldn't go elsewhere trying to get a free hosted website with a subdomain cos blogspot is the bus-stop for that.

to get a toplevel domain, registrars has to pay several hundred of thousands of dollars on license fees. They potentially wanna have their money back. If they give a domain away for free, there is another business model behind. Remember if you do not pay for it, you are the product!

It is possible to get free domain name registration. There are some registrars that offer free registration of domain name on other extensions after you purchase one with them. This is usually called buy one and get one free promo. 123-reg is one of the registrar that offer this promo.

Some companies that provide hosting and server rental services, can offer domain 3 level (example. example.hosting.ru).
But here you also need to look at what they offer hosting for this domain 3 levels. As it may be very limited in capacity and functionality plus it also happens to be free of charge for some companies.
You can still look in the direction of when you buy a website hosting for 1 year, then there is an opportunity to get a free domain for 1 year in the domain zones.
Poetom need to look for a company on the basis of objectives for which you need a domain and what hosting needs for the project.
In my practice met only free domains 3 levels. Level 2 domains (example.ru) must be purchased, usually their cost is very small.

It is not easy getting to see a registrar offering free domain registration, you can only hope for some promo seasons where you can easily purchase domain names at very cheap rates, for example there was a time when network solutions was offering a promo of $1 for each domain that you want to register in the .com extension. These days, it is hard to get such offers as they have already gotten enough customers and would hardly ever consider such considerable promos again.

I have not heard of this one before. I will check it out.
But there is this one that I know and I have used it many times to register free domain name before. The website is freenom.com. It has been providing free domain names with extensions like .tk, .ml, .cf and many more. They are free for ever.

There are some few sources for domains different than "site.hostsite.com" . I have heard that dot.tk is offering free hosting for domains , which ends on .tk ... It is good to see that you can get different name than blogspot/blogger for your website so it can looks more professional.
