Backups are important because if your website got hacked you can restore with one simple file. When do you take backups? Once a week, one a month?

I personally stick to the automatic back-ups that are done everyday or every 2 days, approximately. I do agree with the fact that's it's important, even though it's sad to admit you have to take precautions if you ever get hacked or get a data loss.

Daily backup is a must to avoid losing important data due to an unexpected server crash. I once did not have a backup for a site and I was "fixing" something in the backend, a WordPress plugin I believe and accidentally I deleted an entire folder and was a much of a pain restoring that site, and still lost some images for good. Now I have backups on my server and backups on my computer too.

Auto Backups for the Win.

Im making every 30 minutes backup of my MySQL Databases & Every Day a Backup of my Server Files.

This is the best way to stay good if you loose your files,
when you are running a command on Linux like
"rm -r *" in the Website folder.

Agree with the experience site owner mr b, why don't you think about to have daily back up? This will help you to save all datas and you will never lose a single thing. So apply this suggestion and take a daily back up for your site. Hope your site stay safe from hacking.

I usually backup my website and the content on it. Most of the wordpress content is backed on google drive for me every single month. I wish to sign up to the vaultpress. And that can be one which may require for me to add some payment. But current jetpack seems to be expensive for me. So not taking vaultpress backup. And in case of cpanel I think it'd be easy to backup with one click.

you need to back up your files daily because you didnt know when will you encounter some error and when you will loss your file. better be safe than sorry especially if all your files is important.

I will recommend site owners to back up their files daily, anything can go wrong apart from hackers attacking, one can mistakenly delete his or her files and with back-up in place it will be readily available for restoration. So daily is a better option.

Weekly and monthly is not recommended, you are
going to lose a lot if hackers attack your site. It should be done daily, so if ever something happens to your site, you can be sure that you have the most of your data saved.

First time heard of the WpVivid plugin. it seems like those plugins are premium. Vivid seems to be free for basic features. And there must be a paid version inside. But the site does not mention about it. considering backup plugins can store the data of the backup sites. It looks like a good plugin. I do have vaultpress from jetpack which I use for backup.

I would say backup as frequently and possible like everyday, before and after you make a major change.

I was actually a victim of this. If i could remember correctly, i was trying to delete everything in a folder located in a system folder via CLI in a local machine.

Instead of me actually typing...

sudo rm -f ./*

I accidentally missed the "." and end up typing

sudo rm -f /*

the moment i pressed enter and realized what i have done, it was already too late, the system was frozen and i quickly pressed the power button and remove it battery.
Lucky i saved most project files on a separate partition and was able to recover and backup them up via Linux live mode.

What really is important is auto-backups, the feature of auto backups is incredible and so very significant too, as soon as something important is done, it is automatically backed up.

once you're dealing with something so important , then making backups is a must , you can't take the risk just because you're lazy , twice or atleast once daily would be fine, you don't know what will happen

Absolutely, for sure. When it is a matter of backing up you can never be lazy and only be active and energetic to get your back ups done successfully.

Backup should be take place after every two weeks but keep in mind that all backup files should be saved date wise because for some reason if you need to restore your website to some previous dates you can easily restore it to back dates.

There are a lot of solutions right now that will not require you to be working manually as it is always going to be automatic but is usually does not cover everything. This is why it should be a must that you should back up your website on a daily basis or at least once every two days using both online cloud services and also physical method.

Thanks for sharing the tips, I was so lazy on doing backups and on some data I relied on reminders and always went for monthly backups. But after reading comments here I will be going for daily backups so that I do not lose any important data.

You back up whenever you realise that you have data or content worth something and losing it could affect you negatively. Backing up your progress is very important in many cases such as when you are in the process of creating your website or blog on Wordpress it's very important that you back up all your work and updates that you do on a daily basis

I am backing up my website once a week and currently in the end of the week, to be sure if there anything gone wrong I wont waste a lot of my time to rewrite everything. Sometime more than once a week , after update, I am backing up my site.

It's up to you, really. I back up my essential documents and work files like twice per month, but some people may back up their files more often than that. Some of them back up less. It all depends on how important your files are, and the likelihood of data loss.
