In this tutorial, I'll be introducing you to affiliate marketing traffic and how it works. As an affiliate marketer, it is important to understand how the different traffic sources work and how to use these different sources. As an affiliate, we will use different traffic sources to drive prospects to our campaigns. I'll be talking about the following traffic sources in this tutorial:
  • Search Traffic
  • Display Traffic
  • Email Traffic
  • Contextual or PPV Traffic
  • Social Media Traffic

Search Traffic:

If you want to target search engine traffic this will require you to build a landing page for your product or service that you're promoting. On the landing page, there need to use keywords to attract a website visitor to this page. One way to attract more visitors is to bid on keywords. When trying to increase your search engine traffic, you'll need a budget set aside that is exclusive for bidding on your keywords. You will be bidding against other website owners and affiliate marketers. Keywords are important and especially for search engine results.

You will need to do quite a bit of research to determine the keywords people are using to search for the products or services you are offering. Online there are many keyword search engines that will give you the results of how many people search for a particular keyword. These keywords will be expensive and as a new affiliate, you might not have the budget needed to bid on these keywords. Therefore, it might be necessary to get creative when bidding on the keywords for your landing page.

Many Affiliate Managers can help you out with your campaign by providing you with a listing of the keywords to use in your campaign. The marketer has already bid on these keywords and uses these words in other campaigns. This eliminates the problems you might have with money and the bidding process. It is advisable to get the listing from the marketer or your Affiliate Manager before you start to build your landing page.

Display Traffic:

Using display banners or on-site banners is a great way to monetize your affiliate campaign provided you own a website with high-volume traffic. However, in a lot of cases, this isn't the case because you are just starting out and your website doesn't receive an extreme amount of traffic. In this case, if you want to increase your chances of promoting your advertising campaign, it is possible to buy advertising space on another website that has high-volume traffic. This type of advertising space is known as media buys.

No matter if you display your banners on your own website or you buy advertising space on another website, you still need to make sure the advertising you are using is relevant to your content. Furthermore, you'll need to choose ads that are appealing to your audience. In order to do this, you'll need to understand your demographics to determine which ads to display on your site.

Just keep in mind that display traffic or media buy traffic has a high potential for campaigns that are easy to convert. This type of campaigns is excellent when they target a massive audience. Just choose the right display offers that do really well. Many download offers or even health, weight loss, and beauty are a few examples that do well for display traffic.

Email Traffic:

Promoting your ad campaigns through emails is a great way to attract visitors to your website to earn a commission. However, in order to do this, you'll need a rather large email list to send out your campaigns to. You can introduce your campaign in a newsletter to your followers. I know some people may suggest that you purchase an email list to do this with, but I'd advise against this.

If you want to drive more traffic to your campaign, it is necessary that you do it in a way that will attract your followers. Use a strong subject line and an attractive offer when sending out your newsletter. You don't want to overdo these efforts because you'll end up with people unsubscribing to your website or blog.

Contextual or PPV Traffic:

The pay per view traffic deals with advertisements that are displayed to the consumer based on the content displayed. This type of traffic is basically different forms of adware that are displayed by a toolbar or a software that has been installed. The software allows pop-ups ads to be displayed when a person searches for an item or keyword. This can also happen if they visit a certain website.

This is a great way to get exposure for your affiliate programs that you're promoting. However, it is necessary to point out that you'll be paying for each time the ad is displayed. No matter if a person clicks on this ad or not you are still paying for showing your ad on another site.

This is a very low traffic source and many affiliates will still pay for this type of advertising. This type of advertising is very similar to media buys. If you decide to go this way it is necessary that you evaluate your offers to make sure you're not wasting your money. Make sure that the contextual boxes that you use are attractive, eye-catching, display color, and can draw a visitor in.

Social Media Traffic:

One way to boost your campaign efforts is to use your social media accounts. Promoting your campaigns on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google+, Pinterest, Instagram, and StumbleUpon are a great way to draw people to your campaign. If you are good at creating high-quality content and can build up a large audience this is an excellent way to run your ad campaign and drive traffic to your offers. You'll just need to become an authority in your field and build up the confidence of the people who follow you on your social media sites.
