Let's pretend I hacked someone's Facebook account and substract valuable informations from private messages.

Can I go to jail if they catch me somehow?

If you hack a big personality account, then going to jail is possible. But if you hack ordinary accounts, I dont think they will bother to search for you and put you to jail.

either way, just dont hack any account :)

Nope you won't go to jail just for "hacking" a Facebook account.
But if you really want to go to jail just leak some privy photos and the police will surely be knocking on your doorstep.

P.S. Tried that with my school mates way back in highschool.

It depends on the kind of information you extract from the person's account and how influential and exposed the person may be. Though fundamentally hacking into someone's account is a bridge of facebook laws and very likely punishment must have been attached to different offences in the platform.

Yeah, I agree. If the account owner is highly influential, facebook will surely cooperate to investigation about hacking. And for that, the hacker should be alarmed.

People leave valuable messages on Facebook, what for because I don't understand, anyways that the more reason why I don't disclose stuff about me online.I value my privacy and simple life.Come to think of it,what's the essence of this hacking and getting these messages,is it for blackmailing or to request for money?

Yes. Some people do it for money. They will get the information and then blackmail the account owner to pay in exchange for their account. There are many cases like that here in my country.

Why do you have to hack someone's Facebook accounts? It's illegal to hack someone's account. If they caught you they may file a case against you and could go to jail. So better be safe than sorry.

Some havkings are done for a purpose. For example, they need for investigation for a crime, and hacking the account can help to get some evidence, then they will take such action.

In this case the poster didn't state this, from the way he or she had written it,it directed towards hacking for the wromg reasons which is why we are aganist that.I don't the poster wants to investigate anything.

Yes I know. If havking is done for the wrong reason, then that can surely be considered as illegal act. But for some cases like investigation, I guess that can help.

I think hacking facebook account means you are just wasting your time. because there is nothing that can be gained. unless you have political and financial motive. then it could be something different. but why want to hack someone?

You will probably get into jail if you are living in my country if you will share private photos from the account. What I know is here in my country we have " Anti-Cyber-Bullying Act of 2015". Posting or sending offensive photo of someone without his or her consent, sending rude and insulting messages which purpose is to humiliate that person. If you will be found guilty imprisonment for not less than six months but not more than six years will be the penalty.
i think the Law for cyber Crime! is Different from country to country it may applied in the philippines! But in other countries the minimum fine! is just cleaning a Street or a fine that not Exceeding $ 100 to $ 500 dollars and inprisonment for only 1 day or 1 week ! hacking is not Heinous crime! its just a petty crime!

There is a cyber crime law here in the Philippines but it is not being implemented well because as you can see
there are tone of people who bash celebrities and ordinary people but no act against it unless you will report it to the authority.

That is the ultimate question why hacked one's account if not to steal something. No matter how petty that reason could be,invading one's privacy is a crime aganist humanity.

It's actually implemented in the Philippines only if they will file a suit. Some other people ignore it because they will think it just a waste of time. Filipinos are merciful so they rather ignore it and moved on. But if you hacked politician's accounts be sure that cybercrime law will be implemented because what the sense of passing the law if they won't implement it.

Yes. Some just let it pass. But to be honest, sometimes, authority only prioritize big names. and yes, if the account of a politician got hacked, expect it to be implemented and the one who did itbwill really be put to jail.

Hacking someone's FB account is not a good idea after all. You may not get jailed easily though for tracing the hackers takes time and effort and tracing event only happened when the account hacked is for prominent person. Here in my country, we have this so called anti-cyber bullying law though only few got traced not jailed but with sanctions and every country has its bill of rights, it is against the law to invade someone's privacy for personal satisfactions and fun.

Most Filipinos are not well-informed about the law. It's just sad that they rather keep quiet and don't have an idea about their rights. They often tell leave it to the God karma will come to them. It's really hard to change what their perspectives on life and the culture. Yes, big names will be prioritized because they have resources and time to pursue the case.

Exactly, and the authority will push to gather evidence for them. You are right, some are not aware of it. But it is really sad to read bad comments and bashing whenever I am browsing on the newsfeed, and I am thinking, "is this what technology did to people?"
