❓ASK What do you think about YouTube LOST MILLIONS of $$$?

You probably know already, it was some YouTube ads showing on videos promoting extremist stuff and because of that big YouTube advertisers like AT&T and Verizon, Pepsi, Walmart, Johnson & Johnson and others pulled out their ads. These are big brands and they were spending literally millions of $$$.

PewDiePie today showed us yesterday's video made him only 100$ish and that video had like 2 mil views, OMG.

What do you think about this? :(:(:(

Oh no that pay of $100 was just too meager for a two million views. I am wondering how much was the CPM. Well that was a real serious negative development for Youtube to have made the mistake allowing the ads to go that far. Imagine those giant brands pulling out, this is surely no good news for that popular video site.

Youtube's whole business relies on ads, and as you stated if more big and well known companies terminate their contracts with youtube, it will have a significant impact on the earnings of the content creators and youtube itself.

I was unaware of this, and to be honest it surprises me that YouTube has made such a huge mistake to lose all those advertisers because of that. If I am not mistaken, Youtube belongs to Google, so everything they do is very well thought, so I am really surprised to see that info. I guess everyone makes mistakes?

YouTube may very well have lost a lot of it's major advertisers, but they, and of course the parent company Google aren't stupid and I'm sure they will be back before long. With what's going on in the world today it's understandable that all the major companies are going to be worried about any kind of negative publicity, and that's what was happening because of YouTube so it was no surprise they decided to pull the plug before things got out of hand.

Things like this tend to blow over though, and while it may not be worth making YouTube videos at the moment, I'm sure that the earnings will pick up again in time and I very much doubt we're all going to be deactivating our channels just yet.

Let's make some math ;)

$100 / 2.000.000 views = $0.00005 per view x 1000 = $0.05 CPM

And y'all know that before the YouTube ad boycott the average CPM was $2. :(

With the losses in commercial advertisements as what was enumerated, I don't think that is a permanent loss. It is a natural reaction for an advertiser to pull out their ads from a network (just like in tv ads) when they have a misunderstanding with the network or they have differences of opinion. But Youtube is a huge network in the internet and it has millions of viewers so I guess the ads will be back soon.

As with the $100 for the 2 million views, I guess that's just fine. The rate of revenue sharing is very small.

I am not the biggest expert in this area, but if @Mr. W is saying that CPM was $2 and now is $0.05, it was cut like 40 times, so it's not all right at all @Alexandoy, it's like we started to be paid 40 times less! How can they do that?

I was not really aware that things were that much different. I had heard some rumblings here and there but never really looked into it too much I guess.

Oh, pardon me for not being clear with my remark. I said "it's all right" which means for me, we cannot do anything because that is the decision of the site. However, I agree that it is a big loss for users and video posters like us. But then again, I don't have the habit of complaining when I would be like talking to a wall. Youtube is such a big company and it is their call when it comes to policies.

For sure will go back to average $2 CPM or maybe higher, YouTube working on fixing their platform as we speak so no ads will be shown on inappropriate videos in future, advertisers will come back too cuz is cheap to advertise on YouTube, they just need couple months I guess, anyways a loss is a loss for all YouTube partners :(

As of today I started to see more and more ads rolling on YouTube channels previously visited, ads was from these companies: VODAFONE, Huawei and some others but can remember since I never heard of them :)

Anyways slowly things will get back to normal and hopefully big companies that left YouTube will come back to advertise.

I think they solved this issue now but im not sure about this.It was a mistake definitely and it impacted the content creators which is really bad but dont forget that you are not the only one making money , so is youtube from you. They take their cut and it becomes an ocean from all the partnered creators out there. They had to fix the issue because they wouldn't make good money.

Either way, content creators are looking at Patreon as an alternative to ad revenue since Youtube will be implementing on some rather strict content restrictions that are tantamount of censorship in order to please their future "Safe for Everyone" investors and advertisers. I think with all these future restrictions, Youtube will jut end up as some sort of Music Video viewing website.

I didn't knew that.I am really surprised, how Youtube, the worldwide famous video channel made that mistake.Maybe he wasn't aware of what will happen. But I think Youtube is huge and will manage with other advertisers to go forward.
Or maybe he will not show anymore extreme stuff the advertisers who gave up on youtube will return.Who knows...

All it needs is something like YouTube to come out and offer better experiences and better stuff for its creators and then I think YouTube will be forced to do something or they will be outrunned by the competitors.

PewDiePie has doing a internet marketing trick , to his videos get big number of share " OMG the 1 channel at Youtube will be deleted .

I think YouTube boycott from advertisers was not on the extremist stuff. Most of the left wing advertisers were demanding to support only the left wing related content. So that is something you may need to consider. Another thing you should consider is youtube has given more control to the advertisers now. And they will decide if one channel needs to get low or high paying ads. So earning around like say 10$ per day would not be that easy though. So I think the new change is going to affect small channels the most.
