I just read a thread on this forum and would like to have everyone's opinion on this topic.
What do you really consider as spam?
I want to do some email marketing, and because I want to build my list very fast, I decided to get a good email scraper. Then I scrape a site, chat group or forum that is focused on a particular niche. Then I build a good landing page, offering them something I know they might want and asking for their email in return.
Now, would you consider that spam? Because, I don't.

I wouldn't consider it spam if that product was posted somewhere within that forum/chat group if it was relevant to the forum/chat group's niche, would be beneficial to the people there and would genuinely be something that would be welcomed by the majority of members. That being said, I would also suggest you should have permission from the forum administrator/staff to post something there, and to make sure that it's being posted in the right place. As long as you get the go ahead then you should be fine to post it.

However, if you're just posting it there anyway without permission in order to get something out of it yourself (especially if you're not contributing to that forum/chat group) then I would consider it to be spam. Signing up to it with the sole intent of posting your product there and never interacting with anyone is what would make it become spam in my opinion.

Similarly, if for example it was a gardening forum and you're posting a free e-book about preserving vegetables, while it might be loosely linked to one section of the site and some might appreciate it, others within the group could consider it to be spam, so you'd have to make sure it was posted in the correct section to avoid others calling it as spam. I think it can depend on where and how you're presenting it to your potential clients.

Well I have to say I have never had it put to me like that or been asked that question, and I guess it does raise an interesting question. I like to adopt the old Supreme Court argument from one of the Justices when he was referring to pornography in a landmark case, "I cannot define it, but I know it when I see it". I think that you can apply the same thing to spam.

Legal:
So you email them but they don't know about you at all?

You know their interests but you don't have their consent to send them emails? Is this correct?

If yes then this is called "unsolicited bulk email" = SPAM and in some countries can get you in jail or your ISP send you a strike.

Illegal
You know is spam but you still wanna do it for money, I understand and that's why there's ways to do it and keep you safe, how safe you really are I don't know...

I don't know much but I know you gotta hide your ass, use VPN, use proxies and you gotta be inventive so people open your emails.

The shit you promote to make money it depends on peoples interests, conversion is low but you never know what tomorrow can bring you... maybe $2000... maybe police at the door :D

I would consider any mail that you have not requested that comes form a third party that has been sold to them as spam. This has happened to me on numerous occasions, that's why I have various e-mail accounts.
When I am not 100% about a site I will not use my personal e-mail account. It is preferable to use another e-mail account that is disposable. It might be convenient to have just the one e-mail account but it can be a real pain trying to block the spam.

To me, spam is anything that promotes a product regardless if it is relevant or irrelevant to me. But there are interesting spams like those emails by airlines for their discounted tickets. We are actually awaiting for that since the promo is real and we had been availing of their offer since 2013.

An email promotion should be creative enough to arouse the interest of the receiver. An ordinary promotional poster on discounts and bargains would be ignored by most. But if the promotional gimmick is controversial then I'm sure it will be interesting to read, at least it would be read.

I consider unsolicited emails as spam. But this also depends on their usefulness to me. Some emails pop up from individuals, programs or websites I did not sign up for and they are either out of my range of interests or are of marginal utility as far as I am concerned. This gets worse if they flood my inbox.

Any mail that comes from a source that I don't know and from someone that I don't know. There was a time that I used to get a whole lot of them. I started using disposable e-mails because of this and will only use my private e-mail in situations that I it won't be abused.

Well, for me any unsolicited mails be it relevant or irrelevant is spam.when once a mail comes from a third party unsolicited should be marked as spam.

Going by your analogy then.email harvesters shouldn't be seen as spammers because most of their mails are advertising or marketing mail about a product, service or brand which are true but because they're unsolicited for,it becomes a No.

So I will advise you just go with subscribers who truly need these information or messages to avoid being label a spammer.

Sincerely almost said it all, if you are very sincere and legitimate, if your affiliate or product link is in line with the niche the site is promoting I am sure if you contact the site admin you will be more honored and earn more cos he or she will know the right place to fix the ads for you to earn and the admin also get is cut. Once you are not selfish earn becomes easier.
