i dont think that there is any thing that should come 1st, when setting up a web site & doing the seo. its a matter of doing a number of things, all at the same time. word press plugins to index your web page, plug ins for seo, etc. then setting up the meta data, titles, etc. writing original content & publishing articles, letting know other search engines besides google to list & index your web page, among some other things. you can do any of the seo things in any order you want. but its best to do everything as soon as possible, because the spiders that crawl your web page to index & rank it, can take up to 2 weeks to list a new web page.

always best to do white hat seo now a days. black hat seo might list you faster at the beginng, but you will get penalized sooner or later. probably sooner. so keep your seo legit.

right on, key words are very important !!!!!!! i forgot to mention the humble key word. my bad. its called a brain fart. but key words should only be no more than 2% of your written content on your web page. but use your selected key words any where else that you are asked to place your key words. more is better in these cases.

there used to be a really great program, called market samurai, to find key words, etc. by an australian company. but unfortunately, they discontinued it. pity. there are some really great key word research tools available for free on the internet. its best to always find 1st relevant key words to your niche. but once you have found all the relevant key words to your niche, you can start using more general / broader key words. even thou its important to use relevant key words, its not a bad idea to use key words that have a general meaning as well. seo has become an art & a science at the same time.

the longer you own a domain also influences in its ranking. so think long term if your really serious about creating a successful web page orientated business. also, its better to buy a domain name for as long as you can, normally 5 yrs is the max, if i remember correctly. that can also give a positive seo ranking. it shows that you are committed for the long run.
