I would like to know that have you ever face the problem that your content is showing duplicate without reference the main webpage however you do not know it as you just posted your article in your dedicate blog. I have heard that many people complain about it but no one knows what to do.

There are a couple of things you can do and that's with the help of Google and a couple of paid online tools obviously.

We are perhaps some of the biggest spenders on Copyscape, we search a lot of content and you can do to.
Copyscape is a service that finds similar content on the web, paste your article and pay couple cents per search to check if some stolen your content or not.

Second thing you can do is set up Google alerts, this is super easy you go to http://www.google.com/alerts and put a part of your article and choose category of sites you want to be searched and give your email address so Google can email you when someone used your content.

Now dealing with the guy who copied, will he remove it by contacting him or you need to do more things?

In case he is not willing to remove copied content you can do the following:
- contact his hosting provider and file a complaint, to find his hosting provider use whoishostingthis.com
- use Google to file a Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) against the sites that copied your content

Hope this helps.

@admin - thanks so much for sharing :) This really helps because I've seen some of my articles being shared on Facebook before, and not just the link, sometimes it's the article. The weird thing is that we have our articles copyright protected, so it's annoying that some people have found a way around that.

Wow I didnt even know this was a thing. However, I will keep an eye out for things like this, this is a game changer.

You can use plagiarism checker such as DupliChecker, to check whether or not your content has been stolen. And if someone does stealing your content then you should report it to higher authority.

Usually it is not possible that any one can steal your website .but if it happens then keep your eyes open.

No one was stealing his website. Please read the thread's initial post more carefully next time. The thing that got stolen was his website's content, maybe an article or something like that.

The worse part is the user who copy-pasted the author's content in their wall and not including the original author's name has more likes and shares than the original author.

Oh, gosh, that's even worse! I always pray that if someone grabs hold of my work and reposts it, they'd at least have the decency to credit me to explain it's not their own work.

You're right, there's definitely no need to have a degree to become a successful blogger. A lot of the highest-grossing bloggers I follow are not educated to degree level. You've raised fantastic points - but I also feel that instead of just focusing on chasing money and followers, it really helps to write passionately from the heart because it comes through. Of course, the content also has to be of interest to the readers.

Wow, thank you very much for the detailed guide to guarding against people pinching content! While some of us are bloggers, we're still newbies at navigating our way around the maze that is the worldwide web. I've previously had people steal my content but you never really know the full extent of it, so this helps???

Stealing content is often happen nowadays. In quora we have that problem, many qualified writings are copied by web or newsportal without permission

I'm aware of this but I doubt we'll ever be totally rid of this nasty habit. I've even spotted a few of my answers stolen and regurgitated right here on BMF. But I'm not all that bothered. IWhat I don't tolerate is people stealing content from my blog, especially because we've made it so that you can't copy and paste any of the content on the site because it tells me they go to great lengths to scoop it out of the site.

Sorry to tell, but everything that leaves your computer/device is more or less possible to copy and use/abuse it. There is nothing on internet, that is 100% copy-resistant, I guess.

Indeed, now we don't need to worry because Google's algorithm makes this search engine even smarter in detecting who the real content owner is. However, there is still a possibility that our content thieves will rank higher than us on search results pages.

OMG but that's just weird not to mention unfair! I thought Google was able to pick up plagiarised content? So why would stolen content rank higher on the perpetrator's site than its original source?! Madness!

Well, I'm well aware of this but it doesn't hurt to have a layer of security in place that makes it that little bit harder for people to steal content. I know it's not 100% guaranteed because I've seen our content stolen. But it used to be even worse before we put in place the plugin - that to me is certainly better than nothing.

indeed things like this are very sad. This is why many people are reluctant to write too long and good because the thieves are ready to target their writing

I know, right?! But we also can't allow ourselves to be held to ransom by these unscrupulous people. We just have to go ahead and write good quality content and put in place good security mechanisms to guard against plagiarism. Of course, some people will still be able to bypass them and steal our work but karma is real!

This stolen content issue has become so rampant that many times I even get annoyed about it maybe more than the owner of the content. Students are not left out, they have become so lazy that they hardly make submissions from their own thinking and efforts but to copy and paste.
