There is no doubt that Internet is flooded with a large number of money making opportunities, but sadly most of them are just scams. It is not easy to filter out bad apples anyway. But there are certain precautions we should take before investing our time in a site. Some of them are:

  • Check the track record. It is very important and also go through a number of reviews before jumping in
  • Try to learn about the track record of the owner. Nowadays you can find a number of past scammers in new outfits.
  • A community forum is a must which acts as a door to see what is happening inside.
  • Say NO to sites with very high withdrawal limits. After all it is the money earned by us, then why should there be a limit?
  • Stay away from sites offering unrealistic profits and also try to understand their actual business. I mean how they are earning through this business?

The list is not exhaustive, would appreciate if anybody can contribute more.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I have fallen for scams before. I learned my lessons hard. But nowadays am able to detect scam. Thanks to education and materials.

Most scam sites, have similar looks to the rest of them, and have bogus domain names like freeamazongiftcards dotcom. You can also tell when the reviews are fake because most of the sites I have encountered use the same image for all their reviews and testimonials. Lastly I noticed some of them have a lie chat option, which is always updating, but if you stay long enough, you see they are repeats.

My suggestion is to seek advice from reputed forum members as they have good answers and easy to recognize whether the owner belongs to scam site or not.
The best thing is search in Google by adding a word "scam" to site and see if there are any results in it.
Some people pay in the beginning and later they go into the scam section because of lack in funds and they pay what they get in time.
our tips are good for escaping from real scammers on Internet.

To detect scam sites is a difficult process and most of the times we learn from our mistakes. The warning tips given in this thread are very useful. I too feel that sites with high withdrawal limits should be avoided. Other than checking the track record of the owner and the payment proof, it is always advisable to seek advice from our experienced online friends.

A lot of scam sites you'll find are often run by the same people, and so a lot of the sites will follow the same layout and format.

Detecting a scam is more often than not just common sense, and if your first reaction and gut feeling is that it's too good to be true, you'll usually find that it is.

That is really a good practical suggestion. Taking part in a forum that discusses online money making will really help us avoid scam sites. Most of these forums have a separate section for scam sites. The best part is that we can get candid feedback from the forum members which can be trusted.

I think most of the reviews on the sites are not credible anymore because people are ready to write anything to get referrals through their blogs and review sites.

A company that don't pay on time but still promise to pay you later is for sure smth you must think twice if deserve your time.

I am a forum member in a lot of sites and it is an advantage since you can learn a lot from other members who are very knowledgeable about what's legit and what's not. Now, I can easily track if a site is a scam. I even know if a site pays well or not.

This is great advice. I normally just read some online reviews and sometimes check the history of the site owner. I've also always known to stay away from any businesses that seem too good to be true. Also, not mentioned on the list, I think checking the site's accreditation is also important.

Great post! We must have the knowledge to recognize those types of threats/scams before going-in and be deceived by the apparent benefits of the website. I think if they ask you for your phone number, location, adresses or anything related to bank accounts/credit cards we should always keep on mind the precautions mentioned here.

Taking part in a forum and posting a thread can take somewhere 2 to 5 minutes, but it saves a lot of time from these scams.
Yeah most of the reviews are almost scams, they are just making reviews to get paid for themselves, but one should think other people lives.
The only best advice I found in forums and they are the correct suggestions to proceed.

I would like to think that I am pretty good at sussing out these sites, but then again I am always hearing about them so they must be out there tricking us somehow. Thanks for the tips, and these will certainly help some of us put some red flags up that we might have missed. The ones demanding high profits are usually pretty easy to spot, but some of the other ones maybe not so much.

My idea of scam sites are those sites that promise to pay the writer but did not. It happened to me several times. The first earning site that I joined looked promising such that I was posting everyday. And when I hit 103 posts, that was the time the site announced that they cannot pay the content writers due to spamming. The second site is almost the same and so is the third site. In short, I was scammed 3 times. Now, I check on the proof of payment if there are members who have received payments already. That's one element that would prove a site is not a scam.

It is really frustrating when they do not keep their words. I have a similar kind of experience with an article writing site called Bubblews. I wrote a good number of articles and invested a lot of time there. The minimum withdrawal limit was $50, but quite unfortunately when I applied for a withdrawal they changed the rules and finally they paid me on only $5. But I just wonder how they can reduce the money that is already earned by a member. After that too many members left that site due to very low pay rate. The site has finally closed down recently.

Bubblews has been prominent during its latter days for not paying the amount its members deserved. Gladly, I joined the site in 2013 as I got paid by them a lot of times during their heydays. Almost $2,000 was paid, and before they changes policies, they paid me more than $200 when they offered "Tag Me". I am able to tag one of Bubblews staff and he paid me quickly.

In the first place, it is hard to detect a scam sites unless there is a review or report about it that it is being marked and blacklisted as a scam. Another observable activities: beginning to deny payments, keeping promises unfulfilled, investing a huge sum of money, and the last the admin, the staff have run away left their members unpaid.

I mostly depend on reviews and forums at the beginning and if I see the support is not responsive or admin is not active I consider them as matter of concern. If the site doesn't pay in time or have no proper reasons for the delay there is no way I will continue.

There are some sites wherein there are a log of pending payments while admin turn into deaf ears. I haven't visited site for more than a week now, though I was never been paid by them. I think you knew what site I am talking about.

That is where the importance of a community forum really exists. It is a real window to see what is happening inside. In forums there would be a separate section for suggestion and if it is not paying you can find a lot complaints in that particular section. In sites where there is a lot issues on non-payment you can see it getting reflected in the community forums. But some sites just deactivate this facility well before going to a scam phase. So that could be an indication of a site moving to a scam phase.
