In this tutorial, I will explain the different types of marketing models a new affiliate marketer can select from. Understanding what model to choose for your website is just as important as understanding how affiliate marketing works. If you choose the wrong marketing models to start off with, this can discourage you and cause you a lot of heartaches when you don't make any money. In any adventure in life or online, it is necessary to understand fully what you are doing before you start.

When people think of affiliate marketing all they seem to understand is that they will be offering products to sell on their website and they will earn a commission for selling these items. This isn't the case today. Maybe a few years back this was how it all worked. However, today many companies are looking for new ways to entice a person to visit their website, buy a product, or subscribe to an offer. Therefore, affiliate marketing has just got a bit more complicated and the new strategies have just grown tenfold.

As more and more people use the Internet, mobile devices, and shop online, merchants must keep up with or ahead of the trends in order to survive.. They are always looking for new and unique ways to grow their business and their online presence. That is where the affiliate marketer comes into play. You will be helping these companies by offering different types of marketing models on your website. Today you can tailor your campaign to fit around one of these marketing models.

Cost Per Sale:

This is one of the oldest marketing models out there. A publisher will earn an income by writing up a review about a specific item they want to sell. The review is posted on their website with several embedded links to the product they are reviewing. The website visitor comes to the site to read the review. If they like what they've read, they can click on the link to purchase the item. When the item has been purchased, the publisher will earn a commission from the merchant's site.

This is up to the publisher how they want to promote these items on their website. They can do this through a review. Writing a review of the item is one of the quickest ways to entice a person to purchase this item. You may decide to promote these items on your social media account or design an ad campaign for your website.

Cost Per Action:

The CPA industry is a highly competitive industry and moves rather quickly. As a publisher, it is up to you to stay on top of the trends and move quickly in order to make money. You must really hustle and find the right campaigns for you to work with. In this type of model when a marketer increases the cost per clicks, this can mean a huge loss for you as an advertiser.

The CPA model will include white label products that you can choose from. Some marketers will seek out a publisher that fit their needs and offer them a chance to earn money advertising or promoting their offers. The offers that a merchant gives to a publisher are normally a flat fee payout for leads, sales, registering on a site, or downloading and installing a program or app.

This can also include:
  • Submits – when a person fills out a field or submits their email address.
  • Short Forms: when a person fills out a short form.
  • Long Forms: this is the same as short forms, but instead it is a much longer form the person must fill out.
  • Free Trials: when a person signs up for a free trial.
  • Installs: when a person downloads and installs a program or app.
  • Downloads: when the person clicks on a link and downloads an item. This could be an eBook or even a white paper.
Niche Promoters:

A niche promoter needs a website that is based around a specific niche. There are thousands of niche websites online today. Furthermore, there are many affiliate sites like CJ Affiliate or even ShareASale that offers special products for the niche website owner. You can easily find the products you want to promote using one of the affiliate networks.

If you are an authority in your field, have a large audience that relies on your recommendations, then this is the way to go. Use your website and your authority to promote new products, software, apps, or even games. You have proven to your site visitors that you can be trusted and they trust your recommendations. So use your authority and earn a commission by promoting some specialty items in your niche to your readers.

Mega influencers:

The mega influencer normally has thousands of followers who flock to their sites looking for advice, wisdom or even knowledge. This type of person normally works with other leaders, conference speakers, or even best-selling artists to offer his followers special promotions or information. The mega influencer has a large email list that he can send out a newsletter that promotes items from other product promoters. If one of his readers clicks on his promotional link and purchases the item, he is paid a commission.

You may recognize this in the health industry or even the weight loss industry. If you've ever subscribed to one of these types of websites in the past you'll know what I am talking about. The website that you subscribed to will send you promotional emails for another website in the same niche. You will receive an email introducing you to a new weight loss program, or even a new way to work out and lose body fat. If you join the other website, this person will earn a commission from the website you've joined.

Amazon Associates:

These are website owners who exclusively have chosen to work with the Amazon Affiliate program only. They will only promote Amazon products on their websites. This is an excellent way to earn a commission on your website. As we all know when a person goes to Amazon looking to buy only one product, they normally end up walking away with several products in their shopping cart. You can always earn a nice commission from Amazon.

As your experience grows in affiliate marketing, you'll end up changing your marketing model several times. Most new affiliate marketers will start off with Amazon or a few paid per sale sites to earn a commission. As your influence and authority grow on your website, it is possible to start pairing up with other website owners and offer a few of their products on your site. Just make sure you stick with websites in your niche. This way you are guaranteed a few sales from the newsletters you send out.

Pay per lead is when the affiliate earns a commission when a lead is generated. A lead is someone who has expressed interest in the product or service being promoted. Pay per click is a model where the affiliate earns a commission when someone clicks on an ad or link that they've placed.
I personally prefer ppc.

One of the most important affiliate marketing model is Pay Per sale PPS model . This is a model where affiliate would be able to earn commission for every sale that they have generated.

A very popular model that is known is pay per click model and it's a process where affiliate would earn commission each time any user that is referred clicks on their affiliate link and they would definitely land in the merchant website.

The paper lead PPL model is also a very common affiliate model where the affiliate would have the opportunity to earn commission for each of the qualified lead that has been referred to the merchant and this could be in form of filling out a form or signing up.

It is also critical to know that some affiliate programs operate on recurring commission model and this is a process where affiliate would earn commission so far that they are able to refer the customers and the customers referred continue to use merchant product.

There is an affiliate marketing model that is referred to as cost per acquisition model. This is a marketing model where affiliate would earn commission when a referred customer completed an action and that could be making purchase, signing up or even downloading an app.

The revenue sharing model is another important affiliate marketing model to put into consideration and this is a model where affiliate would earn certain percentage of the revenue that was generated from the referred customer over their lifetime.

A two-tier affiliate marketing model is also a very important marketing model that we have seen so far in affiliate marketing and it's a model that allows affiliates to earn commission by not only making sales but they can also earn commission when they generate sale by affiliate they refer to the program.

Pay per call model is an affiliate marketing that would allow you to generate money or commission for the phone leads that you have made. You will be able to receive commission for each phone call that is made by a referred customer.

I have seen a lot of affiliate programs that operate on hybrid model and this is a process where they combine element of various models in order to suit a specific goals and to also align with their target audience.

One important affiliate marketing model to consider is cost per impression CPM model because this will allow affiliate to earn commission based on the numbers of views that there affiliate links receive or impressions that they receive regardless of whether it resulted in a sale.
