❓ASK What are the best alternatives for Windows 10?

It depends if you need Windows-only apps or not.

If you just need web browsing, word processing, but nothing Windows-specific per se, then Linux works pretty well. Linux can also use Gimp, which has perhaps 90% or so of the functionality of Photoshop, but is free open source software. Of the Linuxes, Debian Linux is my personal favorite. Debian Linux does have some limited Windows emulation using a program called Wine; however, this is insufficient for many of the cutting edge Windows apps, and makes more sense if you're just trying to run an old Windows game (which isn't really a business concern, unless you're a game designer).

For high security needs, there's OpenBSD. However, although OpenBSD can be used for web browsing, word processing, and so on, it is less suitable for many desktop purposes than Debian Linux. You might notice that fewer websites load properly and so on. However, if you wanted to run a web server or something where security was a high priority, OpenBSD would be excellent for that purpose.

If you have a lot of Windows-specific stuff you need to run, then your alternatives would basically just be other versions of Windows, most notably Windows 7, as others have suggestion.

i forgot to mention windows 8.1, it's less complicated than windows 10 and has everything you will need, it's still supported so in case you aren't fine with windows 7, you can give it a try
Yes I prefer windows 8.1, it's even more easier than windows 10 and has high versatility and compatibility. I use HP pavilion which has 6gb RAM and 500gb HDD, Intel Pentium, the battery life is 6hours. 2.17ghz. It has a webcam, 3USB port, HDML, VGA, DVD player, webcam. WiFi, Bluetooth and card reader are some of the features.

There have been a lot of people who have not been happy with their use of the windows 10 software right now and they have been giving it some bad reviews. I believe that you can always use the Mac operating system but I think upcoming updates on the Windows 10 is going to make it just fine.

I have been using windows 10 for the past 1.5 years. But I'm not happy because it comes with many unwanted apps and uses the space in my computer.

Is there a good alternative for Windows 10?
its simple. dump windows & micro soft & go to a mac or linux. windows 10 is super power hungry & has many privacy issues. i also have a win 10 laptop to use when needed. my main computer is a mac. once you go mac, you never go back. there are some really good tutorials on the web to shut down much of the crap win 10 has decided that you cant live without. to speed up win 10, there are a few free programs to make it more secure & less invasive of your privacy.

also going back to win 7 is an opcion, like somebody else said. it all depends what & how you want to use your computer. think twice before upgrading to win 11. ive heard its even worse than win 10. xp was the best thing ms ever made but they stopped updating it.

I'm using both Ubuntu 20.04 and Debian 10, as Linuxian distros and I'm going fine. Ok, Debian 10 and Ubuntu 20.04 are too advanced, as my principal bank security module that share compatibility between Windows and Linux require Debian 9 or Ubuntu 16.04. In any way, I can do all I do with Windows, using Linux, apart of internet banking. So I can't get rid of Windows 100%. But if you don't have a bank account too Linux-unfriendly, you can go happily with Ubuntu 20.04, that in my opinion is the best Ubuntu release. If you have never used a Linux distro, my advice is to begin with Ubuntu instead of Debian, that requires a certain familiarity with Linux environment.

Sometimes it's not always the software but the kind of device in use,the reason I stopped updating my windows and sticked to windows 8.1 is because of compatibility issues, make sure your system specifications especially processor can vile with the windows.

We need to remember and older Windows release sooner or later stops to receive updates: the trouble with this circumstance implies lack of security, as Defender becomes obsolete. Being Windows older releases so prone to cyber threats, there will be the need to complement the O.S. with at least a free version of any commercial antivirus internet security (such as Avira free, etc.).

you also have linux & some other os´s based off linux. then you have ubuntu, which im not sure what its based off of. maybe linux too. then you have a few privacy, secure os systems. that you can boot & run from a pen drive. but the last are very primitive & really not meant for heavy duty usage.

so its linux, win 10 or 11, then macs. really not too much of a choice. i dont have much experience with linux. but i do know many people have gone over to linux & are very happy they did. it runs great, open code source, very secure, a lot of support in the forums, not power hungry, etc. linux looks like a very basic win os.

Any time of great change can be bittersweet. While you may enjoy your new freedom, retirement can also bring a sense of loss. In addition to your changing role, you may be dealing with financial stress, aging, illness, and loss of loved ones. You don't have to face these challenges alone. Care.com, a site for seniors and their families, says that joining a support group can help seniors cope with challenging situations by sharing their feelings with others. A support group can even provide a social outlet if you're feeling isolated.

Windows 7 is the best OS ever, but probably Microsoft will shut it down soon.:(
if im not mistakken, xp was probably the best win os til date. approx 40% of all the worlds computers are still running xp. even thou ms stopped support & updates for xp yrs ago. win 7 was pretty good too but too buggy when i used it. i also think ms has stopped support & updates for win 7. there are many small & large companies that cant afford, not just economically but infrastructure wise to update all their computers to every new version of win that comes out. theres a huge amount of programs that wont work or crash on newer versions of win.

all ms, win, gates, etc., do is care about the money. there really is no reason to introduce so often a so called " new " os´s. from what i can gather win 10 & win 11 are almost exactly the same. except for some minor updates & changes. also, win 11 is super power / memory / cpu hungry. making it hard for you just to update your computer with the new win 11 software / program. so now ms is making a bunch of win 10 computers obsolete because they arent powerful enough to run win 11 properly.

imagine all the natural resources, toxic materials, energy, etc. that it costs to build a new computer. now you have all the old obsolete computers not getting recycled properly. then ms pays millions of $ on advertising saying they support climate change, recycling, etc. when in fact ms is a huge contributor to all the toxic waste that exists in the world. actions speak louder than words. that is just 1 of the reasons that ms sucks & is hated.

I can't advise for older software especially if you use newer hardware. Most 3rd party drivers now don't include Windows XP & Vista anymore, and probably they will sunset Windows 7 too sometime in the future. Try Linux OS such as Steam OS for gaming, and Mint for daily use. Win 10 bloatware is annoying but if you have a good PC, the performance hit is not noticeable.

yes, your right. win 10 is load with bloatware & spy ware. of course ms says the spyware is for them to better the way users use win 10, better to improve their os, etc. its all bs, ms just loves telling people how they should use their private pc. ms lies & steals all the time. ms as a company sucks.

there is a really good program, called - pegasun. it removes a lot of the win 10 crap, shuts down un needed things running in the back ground, etc. the free version of pegasun is pretty good. you can get by just using the free version. but the paid version opens a lot more features & is worth the investment. it costs about 30 usd for a life time subscription, for 3 different computers, if i remember correctly. i bought the life time subscription some months ago & am happy with everything it does. after running pegasun, you will notice your win 10 running a lot faster.

no matter what i do or how hard i try, i cant find out how to remove the crap edge browser completely from my win 10. edge is just plain rubbish & spies on you more than google chrome & fake book put together. even removing the reg key for edge doesnt work. it always reinstalls no matter what i do.

macOS: The operating system used on Mac computers was created by Apple. A large variety of productivity and multimedia apps are available, together with a slick and user-friendly interface and great hardware-software interaction. However, it only works with Apple-branded gear.

Linux: Linux is an open-source, free operating system that is available in a number of distributions (distros), including Fedora, Ubuntu, and Debian. Strong security protections, a wide range of customization possibilities, and flexibility are all provided. Linux is frequently used in servers and is becoming more common on desktop computers.

Windows 7 or Linux. Both have their own disadvantage though. At least for Linux governments and companies won't spy and track your every digital movement.
In my opinion, Windows 10 is superior to Windows 7 because it provides enhanced security, better performance, and advanced features that make using the operating system more efficient and enjoyable.

win 10 is loaded with bloat ware, crap that windows just loves to fill their computers with, spy ware & other garbage. win 11 is the same but just more power hungry. windows adds so much junk to their os, windows thinks that they should tell you how & what you should use on your computer. part of the way windows makes money is thru royalties, they get paid by companies to load their junk. then win doesnt care about badly written code when you use these programs.

those are some of the reasons people have gone to mac´s or linux based systems. better & more reliable os´s.

theres a good program, called pegasun system utilities, that speeds up win & removes a bunch of the crap. the free version is good enough but the bought version is great. worth the expense.

Did you find out a way how to remove Edge browser, doesn't matter if by registry/system manipulation, or using some software like Pegasun?
Just curious, as I'm forced to use Win 10 and 11 at work, my home computer is Linux based.
BTW, Mac OS is also a *nix system.

Linux is a free and open-source operating system that offers a variety of distributions, or versions, that can be customized to suit your needs. macOS is the operating system that comes pre-installed on Apple computers, and offers a smooth and intuitive user experience. Chrome OS is a lightweight operating system that's designed for use with Google's Chrome browser and cloud-based apps
