What is the impact of websites now using their visitor's computers considering not many visitors are tech savvy? Several websites have been accused of that including showtime websites and Pirate Bay.

Website owners try many possibilities to earn money these days, especially when they have high traffic sites.
Seems many websites could be just be doing that. The attached pic is of a news website in my country which has been accused of doing that. Does it affect even website visitors using mobile devices or it is just PCs?

I think sites like this should be flagged as malware, btw I've visited "nairobiwire" website and it seems to be clean now.

Yes i think you are right. SOmetimes it happens that when we open a certain websites on our browser our pc gets slow. I guess those sites use our pc for mining. I never thought that this could also happen but now i have i realized.

I think piratebay has been using the miner that slows down the CPU. And it has managed to get the traffic from people. Though it kind of hangs the browser. I am thinking that people should be careful when it comes to the cryptocurrency based scripts. Miners often hang the browser and eat a lot of CPU. As they seem to be mining with available resources. I think that is something surely nobody wants to try out. We will see in future how this changes many companies.

I think this form of mining may not be good for many poeple. they are going to hate the way they are being used in taht case. I think people should understand that it can be really bad in many ways. You can see that people who are into the cryptocurrency often use it and they decide if the user can be forced to make use of the mining. and they use such through chat widgets etc. so not a good option if you ask me. bad monetization in long term.

yeah, I read about it and already noticed it in some sites, including one news site in my country.
The idea to mine with your browser is good, especially if you're at work, you have a powerful computer and you want to earn some free bitcoins in the background. You can't earn much unless you leave it 24/7 and you have a really powerful machine but it's a good alternative to faucet claiming every 5 minutes..

I think, that mining has to be decided by the people, who are active on the website. The website owner can't force them to do mining,if they don't want to do this.Or better the website owner should inform the people with all the details, what mining means, and if they agree it is ok then.If not, people sooner or later will realize that, and will quit the site.

This is part of the negative impacts of technology on the environment, people who knows takes advantage of others.
I think it is better said, that people use technology to good purpose, and not take advantage of each other.Using technology it is one thing, and taking advantage is another thing. But it depends of everybody's point of view.I think of technology as a method of earning online.Who are more experienced earn even more, and it is ok with me,because I know, that they worked hard to achieve success.I hope to be there at that success some day.

Currently I have no issues with all the faucets I use and my CPU usage is between 14% - 18% sometimes it will spike over 30% but only if I start using apps.
Thanks very much for the warning, will look out for this in future.

Unfortunately this kind of manipulation with users is get every day more and more different ways. Because of that my CPU usage is always on monitoring and i avoid sites who raise it. I also notice that some games on facebook like Home Garden push mu CPU on 98% and i think they have way to do mining on users PC.

I doubt they implemented mining in a game on Facebook. I mean, does Facebook allow such things ? Maybe the game is just to heavy or intensive for your computer . It really depends what kind of computer you have / laptop, at least in my opinion.

I would not have a problem with mining if they can make some $$ to pay the bills. But they need somehow to limit the cpu usage.I would gladly give a 3% while i am visiting theyr site, but not 10%+.This could be an alternative to the obtrusive ads but only if its done within a small limit.Remember, sites need some kind of income to survive. There are hosting bills, etc.A majority of people write to make some kind of profit.A good site with good information may dissapear one day because the owner does not want to take money out of his pocket forever with no return.

Website owners are adding the coinhive script. and that way they are forcing the mining on the people. as the coinhive javascript burns the CPU and the browser gets hanged. you can see that such type of the scripts can be really bad for the monetization. and that is something you have to consider seriously. i'd say people have to consider removing adblock instead. because otherwise the sites are not going to sustain for sure.

You are absolutely right.I was thinking a long time about mining, but there are many things involved,so I thought,it is better to earn other way cryptocurrencies.Even if with faucets it's a very slow earning, but I like it better, than mining. You are right, mining sites owner have to have some profits too, otherwise why to keep the site running and how to cover all the costs?
