TranscribeMe Review.jpg

I found out about this site called TranscribeMe where they pay you to transcribe audio to text.

I signed up, but can't seem to get past the final exam, I'm on my third try. I was just wondering, has anyone tried this site? Is the pay worth the effort and time? Or are there better transcribing sites?

I heard this site long back on forums, but never tried neither interested with them. As per you query, try one more time and see if you get pass or not else forget them.
I think you need to type very fast without spelling mistakes, but in these days you will find more other type of works on freelancer sites.

Yea, I failed the entrance exam yet again. I think I'll take your advice and move on. I think if speed is a factor, then I don't think I'd be great for that position, since I like to review my work and check it over for mistakes. I'll try looking at some freelancer sites. Thanks for the feedback!

I myself have tried this site. I even took down notes while doing it, about four pages front and back. I really thought I had this down as when you do the little exams I passed every one. I felt excited to take the final exam. After taking it I failed. I didn't understand because I made sure to pause, rewind and look over everything as many times as it took before submitting it. They are very specific on that site so I have to imagine the pay would be worth it(after getting down how to do it) in the end. Amazon mechanical turk has tasks like this, these are not in need if it being quite as specific but you still need to know how they want it.

I think while most sites like this demand a certain amount of accuracy, some do go a little too far.

If your getting paid a decent hourly rate and they're taking you on under a contract as a regular employee, then you'd expect this sort of strictness. At the end of the day though, they're not, and yet they're making you go and jump through hoops for what is effectively a $3 an hour job...

I never thought TranscribeMe had such strict examinations, I told myself to register with them as soon as possible, but now that I hear of your story, I am a bit nervous, but I will certainly try them anyway.
So how many times can a person retake the test after failing?
And have you tried other transcription sites like Rev or SpeechPad?

There are sites which are not as strict. Some of these you can find through a search, but if you are doing Amazon's Mechanical Turk, there are one or two listed there which you can do either through Amazon, or through their site directly. I wish I could recall the name of it at the moment! (If I do, I'll mention it later), but it's nowhere near as strict as TranscribeMe is. The pay is variable, but better than some of the other ones that don't test as much for quality assurance.

The fact that they test for quality is fair enough, and something you'd expect, but not when they take it to far.

When it comes to these online jobs, there as to be a balance and they shouldn't expect perfection, especially if a person isn't using their native language.

I have also failed 3 times with TranscribeMe. I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I have read the guidelines numerous times, and have put it on hold for about a week now. It is super frustrating when you can not get any type of feed back. I'm not sure if it is really worth the time. I come from a medical background and have proof read so many bad transcriptions that I myself had to fix or the chart note would have made no sense at all.

I already tried to apply, there's a long test before you get approved for English transcribing, and you have to follow a lot of rules. You will receive about 6 cents per minute, but if you are looking to earn some bucks on the side it's a good alternative. You can repeat the test a few times, I tried once and failed, I found it too boring and complicated, it simply wasn't worth for me.

Same thing here, I applied there after trying SpeechToTextService and Rev.com (failed the first and gave up on the second, I just couldn't figure out some words), but failed. I got no feedback whatsoever, so I don't even know where to improve. It's not even frustrating anymore, I think I just need to improve my hearing skills.

I heard about this site couple of weeks ago, however, I have not bothered to check this out. I am done with the sites that asks you to perform tests only to be notified that you have been rejected or have low rating. Most of the sites want native English users, thus I avoid these sites.

Looking at most if the posts on this thread, is there actually anybody that as managed to pass the test in this site, nevermind even managed to earn any money?

Like I said before, while a acknowledge that they have to have some sort of tests to try and guarantee the quality, if NOBODY can actually pass it, what's the point?

Sorry for the late reply. A person can take the final exam 5 times before their account is banned. You can go ahead and try it, you might pass. No, I haven't tried or heard of sites like Rev or SpeechPad, but I will check them out now.

The problem is that these sites have way more ´workers´ than they have work available, so they can be picky about who they select. They really don´t need more workers, as they would rather have their highest ranked transcribers having plenty of work rather than having a multitude of workers all fighting over a few jobs. You have to look at it from their perspective.

If it were me, I would have the score needed to pass the exam be adjustable based on how much outstanding work was available on the site.

In fact, it could be that the exam is just there as a show and everyone now fails simply because there is no work available anyway.

Thanks a lot!!

I have tried it and got selected in the exam. But the work is too laborious and the pay is very less. The audio files are not of good quality, which is the reason why you are being asked to transcribe it in the first place. I tried doing one or two audio files but was severely burned out after doing it, so I just left it. Do it only if you are desperately in need of money and can't find any other avenue to earn.

I know people that work as audio typists, and even on regular jobs, not online work I think that's the nature of the job anyway. It's not exciting work but they don't claim it to be, it's just work that people with a certain skill set can do to earn a wage.

If you have a good ear for detail and can type fast and accurately, then you can be a transcriber.

Transcribeme was quite of a disappointment because everything seemed to be going well until the last exam and I got so unmotivated that I put it off for a while. I really need some extra cash so I'm willing to try the exam again but I don't know if I'll be able to pass it ever.

Thank you! Speechpad is the one I was thinking about which has a duality between Amazon and direct work. From what I've seen, they have jobs that range between $5 to $45, and are easier than Transcribeme and not as difficult as Rev.com either.

There's some others like workers.castingwords.com and scribie too, which may be sites worth looking into as alternatives.
