There are different ways to make money online and one such very popular way is by selling Stock Photos online and it's getting more and more popular day by day because there are number of websites which are available where we can sell our Stock photos and actually photos are most important as they are required in Magazines, Blogs, pages and almost everywhere and we can expect to make decent money from every approved and sold photo.

But the most important thing is that the Photo should be ours and of very good quality otherwise, it won't fetch a reasonable price for our work.
In this Review, I will share about the 5 most popular websites where we can sell our stock photos and make money from that.

Alamy.com: If we talk about making money by selling photos, then Alamy is a very popular name and there are reasons why most choose Alamy over other websites.
Alamy is transparent in the way that they pay us 50 % commission for all the exclusive stock photos and 40 % commission for all the Non-exclusive exclusive stock photos submitted by us and sold by Alamy.
Payments are sent when our Cleared Earnings Balance is over $50 through PayPal, Skrill or Funds transfer on first working day of every month. We can expect to get paid in GBP, EUR or USD which we can change as per our preference under the Contributor Dashboard on Alamy.

Shutterstock.com: Shutterstock.com is a very popular name in this Industry and they are working in more than 150 countries globally. They are not paying a high commission like Alamy but still, shutterstock.com is the first choice of many sellers. Earning per download is between $0.25 to $100 so every time a person downloads our submitted photo, we'll be entitled to earn from it. Shutterstock is also running a referral program wherein we will be entitled to earn an attractive referral commission when we refer approved contributors on the website.

Istockphoto.com: Istockphoto.com is another very popular name where we can sell photos and make money from it. We can earn up to 45 % earning from our submitted photos, every time it's downloaded. They accept both Exclusive and Non-Exclusive content so we can expect to earn more from this website.

Fineartamerica.com: Fineartamerica.com is another popular name where we can sell our stock photos and images and make money from it. We can set out mark-up price and earn exactly that when the website is able to sell. We can even sell images and graphics for Mobile case covers, pillow covers, posters etc. so there are different ways to earn from the website.

Fotolia.com: Fotolia.com is also known as Adobe and is a very popular name to make money by selling stock photos online. We can earn up to 35 % commission per photo submitted and sold by Fotolia.com and payments are sent through PayPal or Skrill when the contributors earning balance reaches at least $25.

There are several other websites but above 5 are the most popular to sell photos and make money online.

At the moment I am using 4 apps: Foap, Snapwire, EyeEM, Shutterstock. First 3 have challenges and selling market, but there are way too many contestants, and I wasn't able to sell any photos in my first week (even though I think they are pretty good). Any tips on photos I should make?

I have tried selling my photos at shuttershot. Com but my photos were rejected citing not viable and I was wondering what that means. I will be try others ones now. I just like snapping the environment I just love it.

Thanks for sharing. My husband used to submit photos to stock image sites and found Shutterstock very strict. Some were accepted by Dreamstime and amazingly, he still earns passive income from the site. It's not a huge amount because he hasn't submitted any more pictures, but every little helps :)

Online stock image libraries scrutinise the photos submitted and will pick holes where there are none. If I had the money, I'd set up my own platform, especially because it's not easy to find pictures related to my country.

When my husband used to be interested in selling photos on image libraries, there were many people who did it as a way of life. I don't know how they did it but they raked in thousands of dollars.

@coinmaker - I've never heard of depositphoto. Is it as strict as most image libraries?

I've never heard of it either, so I can't comment on thatr. The ones I know are Dreamstime, iStock, AdobeStock (formerly Fotolia) and Shutterstock.

I see iStock, AdobeStock and Shutterstock have pretty good collections of photos. But, being able to sell our photos there pretty hectic. They have very strict norms and maximum photos get rejected in no time. The competition in market has risen too much.

What do you mean? I believe scenery photos (if that's what you're referring to) would be ideal because they are mainly used as wallpapers.

What do you mean what do I mean?! Have you even bothered to READ and understand what I said, something I said from firsthand experience? I don't believe what I wrote needs any further breaking down, so I'll leave it there and you can do with it what you wish. If you don't believe me, go ahead and submit your 'scenery photos' and come back and tell us how that went.

Wow, nice attitude you got there. I was asking for a clarification because you merely mentioned, "Photos related to my country". That could be anything; food, people, landscapes, buildings, etc...

If you won't even bother to even answer properly, it's fine.

I got the attitude that you so 'charmingly' point out from your seemingly hostile attitude. I apologise if that wasn't the case. I don't know if there's something lost in translation here but look, I honestly don't want to butt heads with you or anyone else for that matter. What I meant, in the simplest terms possible is that it doesn't matter how lovely you think your pictures are, stock image sites such as Dreamstime etc are very, very picky. For example, for every 100 photos you submit, you can expect only a small handful to be accepted. I hope that's clearer.

You're most welcome ? The only problem with stock imagery sites is that they are very, very picky - like I said above. My husband took photography as part of his graphic design degree, so he's no slouch when it comes to taking photos. But two huge stock imagery sites, DreamsTime and iStock I think the other one was, only accepted a few of his pictures out of the hundreds he submitted. BUT on the upside, the few photos he managed to get approved still continue to earn him a few $$$ years later.
