I want to start a brand new website, new domain is a must, I'll be using wordpress, but the question is what things should I keep in mind while buying domains? Thanks in advance for your tips!

While a buy domains I have these things in mind:
1. domain must be .com
Search and research till you find a great .com domain, I vouch for this extension instead of .net or .org or other.
2. domain must be virgin (find if is not used in past with a quick search on Way Back Machine)
This is to ensure you won't buy any domains with dark history, they could as well be penalized by search engines.
3. domain must be short and easy to spell and remember
If your domain has these 3 characteristics the marketing strategies involved with brand awareness will be very effective.

If you find a great domain name that is already registered you may contact the owner and make him an offer. Premium domains are not cheap!

Here are two helpful tips from me
  1. Your domain must be .com or .net
  2. Your domain must be short so your audience can easily remember the name of it.

I think the biggest thing to keep in mind is that you are giving some value for the domain. Just holding it for long time won't be a good option. And in such case you have to find out if the domain is good enough. For example, there are good values from website and the domains. It can be good enough on many grounds if possible. There seems to be things that one needs to pay attention to as well.

Niche is what really matters first. If your niche is great and you're setting it up with a domain well known like .net or .com or it depends what type of niche you're going to promote.
I've seen many sites with .co or .club etc having great amount of traffic.
Just make sure your site/blog has an eye-catching name.
And make sure your idea is worth the money you're paying if it's a starter phase. Although, I think Wordpress do require time for learning it's plugins and stuff.
Good luck tho.

The most important thing is to find some domain that was not used before. You want to make new site, and because of that choose the new domain.

yes!! there are things you need before buying a domain name.. Where you will get your traffic??? how will you maintain your site..and there are things your damain name must have./shorter is better/avoid hyphenated domains/choosing the right extension .com .org .net/ make it memorable.

I think your domain must depict your blog niche or content.Get domain extension with .com.Get a new domain name.Let the domain name be short and easy to memorise.

Your domain name should be relative to your niche. It must be unique, catchy but easy to remember. Shorter domain name is much easy to be memorized by your visitors. You could also use your own name if you want to develop your own brand.

I will surely keep this in mind. When I finally decided to buy my domain hopefully next year. I just have to gain traffic for my blog because it is not earning much.

Check what future is coming. If you choose domain which is actual now, doesn't have to be actual in year or two. Better think what will come.

1.) Avoid .net or .org.
2.) If you want to focus on your home country then select a domain that relates to that country (.co.uk, .ca, .in etc). Host the site there, too, if possible.
3.) No hyphens, no numbers, no funny or cute spellings
4.) Put your name in it if you want to be closely associated with the site - if you are building the site to sell later call it something else
5.) 3 words max

You have to apply some strategy to gain traffic. Of course, number one is to create high-quality contents on your website. Readers will remain on your website if you are constantly publishing contents that they love to read. The appearance of your website will also matter. People have short attention span when it comes to website contents that why you have to make sure that you'll catch their attention and grab their interest when they stumbled on your website.

high-quality content and appearence are certainly a must and the high-quality content is also essential for adsense, not only for the future readers, but.. I believe it is just as important to promote the site in all the possible ways because it doesn't matter how astonishing your content is if nobody sees it :Sorry:

Yes, promoting is one of the strategies that you have to do in order for your content to be seen. You could use free media like SEO, Facebook community, or paid advertisement.

paid advertisement would be an idea, but only on websites from which you are sure that many people would be interested in your niche

Targeting specific audience is really important in paid ads so that you will not be wasting your money. That's why you have to do thorough research about your audience and your niche. Paying for ads without knowing your target is like shooting randomly and not sure if you'll hit the right one.

That's way before starting some advertising campaign you need to do a lot of stuff like: checking country from where visitior came, browser, time, man of women, etc..
