As reported by Bitcoin.com, the tax agency of New Zealand, The Inland Revenue Department, also known as IRD has asked various crypto firms that operating in the country to hand over crypto users' personal data to them. According to a report by Radio New Zealand, this will improve the tax agency's understanding of how crypto works. The move has been criticized since it's violating their privacy.

I hope they don't want to manipulate things , because people's data are at stake and can be used for another purpose entirely , this is really bad

It is not just violating the privacy of the user , I see it as a way to monitor them and plan on enforcing taxation on their cryptocurrency transaction . This is something that is fishy

Yeah same with me because some government key roles as always been on embezzlement and insane taxation , so they know that crypto currency are now mostly used not bank transaction so they are looking for tax return

How are users' data going to give them a better understanding of crypto? They are just purely violating people's privacy and there are a million ways to learn about crypto.
Well stated, some people are just fraudulent and they believe they are always smarter than others. You need people data to learn more about crypto. This is laughable

They are not learning about crypto currency this is just another way to hide what they want to do ,so they would get to know more about the crypto useage in the country

That was my first thought too. Something is definitely fishy and demanding crypto users' data and claiming wanting to learn is just an excuse.

The excuse they are insuinating is not even convincing because most people wouldn't even accept such like they better stage a big protest for such thing

Well isn't is bad ? , Why will they want to pose their nose into something that don't really concern them ? , Haven't they embezzled money enough ?

You and I know that some government can never change because the rule after every specific year and things remains the same thats it

This government be thinking they control the world
Are there no other way of understanding crypto and what has user personal data has to do with that?
They need to be sue for attempt of fraud and violation of privacy.
Yeah the issue is that if they are been sued who would handle the case ? It's still the government that will do the job so they might accept their fate

You are right. Thinking that because it is the government, everything should be handed over to them without questions is definitely a misunderstanding they need cleared.

It is just a strategy to boost their internally generated revenue because having their personal data they will know or monitor their transaction then they develop a tax plan for the crypto users.

Same thing I wanted to ask. I really don't see how users personal data will give them a better understanding of crypto. They are creating problems for themselves because people have a tendency to sue them if anything goes wrong.
Exactly the point I made. They are just causing unnecessary issues where there shouldn't be none. They may have to face a lot of angry individuals for this.

It might not be used to get a better understanding of crypto they use the data to check the amount of crypto users have ,then start to look for means too tax them

My thought exactly, their reason is outrageous. How do people even learn about crypto through user's personal details. This sounds more like a frsud waiting to happen

I couldn't agree more. There is definitely something to it. It could either be some shady dealings or a means to have control over crypto use.

I think they intend to figure out how to tax cryptocurrency owners for the money they own, but still asking for user data is a violation of privacy

You are on point. Nothing about their intentions point to the fact it learning certainly not with people personal data. They would have come up with a better idea
