Ok, so I haven't quite been around the block yet when it comes to making money online, but after doing a research survey that involved flashing very gory and unsettling images on my screen yesterday, I started to wonder how many of you out there have encountered the dark, bizarre, and just plain weird side of making money online?

Come one, come all!

I don't recall encountering anything like what your description is making me think of. Could you be more specific about what you are referring to?

I have unfortunately encountered sites that have banner ads that are, um, highly inappropriate. Most often they women in the images have undergarments on, but sadly I have, in past years, seen some that were not. I feel so bad for everyone involved in that kind of thing. How dehumanizing for the women, and I also feel sad for the many men who get sucked down the path of looking at those images, and end up addicted and harming their present and future relationships.

The darkest thing that is going on with me on making online money is that I dont get to earn the ammount that I should be earning at the end of every month and in a particular case, my rented referrals are not clicking as they should and I am also already getting tired of it but the good thing is that I will keep trying until I reach the limits.

Well, most people who earn money online are not at the level they want to be. Sometimes you do better for awhile, and then you do worse again. It is very up and down and cyclical. However, if you stick with it long enough, you will probably see an increase in your income. However, for most people unless you have a regular online job, you likely are not going to make enough to live on. It is more like extra money.

I haven't encountered anything like you described, but in 2008 I think I did because I signed up for many PTC sites. I finally realized that by clicking on ads like I did, some type of viruses had placed on my computer. Since then I avoid doing PTC sites. I don't make enough money to have my computer ruined and I stick with sites that have a bit of good reputation.

I cannot really remember anything like that. I found ads that were hiring young boys for 'hanging out' with an older man or even men. I saw another ad that was all about renting a son for some crazy small cash. I guess it was a practical joke. I found those online so I guess they can loosely fit this thread. I earn okay with my online job and I was only fooled several times and lost some money but it wasn't dark, morbid or anything.

The one I participated in happened to be a university study/survey combo. It seemed to be mainly concerned with whether the stimulus on the screen would have an effect on a person's response time. The main objective was to press a keyboard key after an image of a white square flashed. Once this action was performed, an image would display on the screen, then rinse, and repeat. In some cases, the images were positive (think children playing, sunset, etc.), or just neutral (inanimate object and such). Other times, however, the images were more along the lines of the title of the thread (road kill, violent situations, drug abuse, dead bodies of a variety of sorts). Definitely a trip.

Recently I did participate in another one, though darker to lesser extent. This one was another university study/survey where the participant is required to do one of three things in response to a scenario where a person experiences pain of varying sorts:

1. Write a story as to how the participant inflicted pain on the other person.

2. Write a story where a unfortunate circumstance causes the person in the scenario pain.

3. Come up with words that rhyme with the words used to describe the scenario.

Yeah, I'd say both of those definitely falls under the "weird" portion of the thread.

I can totally relate to that, as I've fallen prey to similar sites as well. Fortunately it was nothing that caused my PC to completely die on me, but I'm definitely more cautious now. Guess it comes with the territory of making money online...

WOW, I've never come across anything like that. What survey site were you on? I have been doing surveys for years on various different sites and I have never experienced anything of that nature. I have been asked strange questions in the qualifying stage such as "have you ever rode a train to Mars" to see if I was human or actually reading the content, but that is about it.

Never found anything really bad. The other day I made a survey where I had to think about people telling me really sad stories like the death of someone but that wasn't really strange? I would freak out if something like corpses appeared in my screen, since I have anxiety and it is usually triggered by things like that. Freaky!

The only thing that I can think of that's similar to that is the people that work for Facebook monitoring the pictures uploaded for gore, porn and even child porn. I don't know if they still use humans for those tasks but I remember reading an interview with one of the guys that did this. He told the reporter that he died a little inside each and every day he was exposed to all that filth. The thing was so horrible that the job had an insane turnover rate.

No way I am doing something like that, I only do fun things for beer money, or maybe boring and tedious things but not something like that, I don't need that in my life.

Yeah, it was kind awkward because I was just browsing the net for some job and just from nowhere I saw these strange ads. In Serbia we have these all around cities. On lampposts, on the walls of the subway. Everywhere actually. The one about renting a son was definitely a practical joke because the guy made an ad like he was selling a car. First owner, produced in 1992, it comes in white colour, mileage - he doesn't even go to shop for basic everyday stuff, etc.. :)

Well the only thing related to "dark?" ways of making money online available to any person is obviously p**nography. Women like Mia Khalifa ( famous p**nstar ) make millions of dollars in that industry and while you can go on about how its dehumanizing and everything, they are doing it by choice and hell, they're getting rich from it! I also know many people who make side-money re-uploading p**n from one website to another and then sharing affiliate money or ad revenue, e.t.c.

I am aware of things that are available on the deep web such as dark p**nography and things like bestiality. There are plenty of horrible things available on the dark web. A good example is this website that allegedly sells human dolls. They are essentially people who have been kidnapped and then deprived or their senses, i.e they can't hear, see, feel, taste, e.t.c essentially turning them into living dolls. Very scary stuff. Just do a quick search on YouTube of people exploring and talking about their experiences on the dark/deep web.

I personally stay away from any websites that I don't feel the need to visit or I know are potentially dangerous.
