I don't think that it is right to monetize a chat. As much as this will promote the use of the Telegram app, i think that many will not feel secure in their use of this social media and as a result in could lead to a smaller userbase of the Telegram app.

That's true, but running costs are unfortunately high and so far CEO Pavel Durov has kept Telegram afloat on his own money. Telegram tried to launch its GRAM token and the SEC banned it, this jettisoned all its monetization plans.

I don't really know why the SEC banned the launch of the GRAM token, but it was something very regrettable for Telegram and its CEO, Pavel Durov, it seemed something against this social network

I am suprise because how can a reputable company like telegram and its token its banned while other average companies token aren't banned by sec , so i think there is more to this and this might make telegram want to give up on their project

I was also surprised by that news, something will be that the SEC prohibited the launch. I cannot give a responsible opinion about this event if not the facts in depth, but the truth is that it caused great surprise in the crypto community.

Ofcourse , if telegram wants to be monetized then they should also create earning opportunity for users so that everyone can benefit simultaneously .

One of the reasons why a lot of good ventures go down is when the operating cost is high. It kills a venture faster. This isn't good for the chat platform telegram. They should come up with a better means

Coming up with a means to improve on operating costs in order to increase profitability, whilst there is already an idea out there or in motion, such as already release Telegram is quite hard. From my point of view it is harder to change an idea after being implemented rather than starting to build a better idea from the ground up. Perhaps Telegram may take this approach to try and resolve the issue.

Sounds like US-Russa war ! honestly. Probably telegram is a Russian app (though I am not sure) but GRAM did not go as expected till now. So Telegram need more plan to popularize and even more efforts to make it a very profitable coin.

Because Pavel Durov, Telegram's CEO and founder, hinted that he can no longer afford to bankroll the chat app, stating that rising server costs and other expenses were costing him "hundreds of millions of dollars a year."


He claimed that unlike the founders of WhatsApp – who sold their firm to Facebook in 2014 – he would not consider looking for a buyer. However, he wrote,

"Telegram will start monetizing from next year. In doing so, we will remain true to our values and the guarantees that we made in the past. We will be able to monetize Telegram unobtrusively – most users will hardly notice any major changes."


Durov stated that all existing Telegram services would remain free, and that its messaging services would remain ad-free. However, he added that Telegram would start charging to additional business-related functions and that "users with advanced needs" would be expected to pay.
