Telegram announces that username will become a real NFT that can be collected or sold very soon.

But how was this made possible?

In 2020, The Open Network (TON), a proprietary blockchain designed to assist Telegram in its transition to become an economically profitable service was launched.

That service offers the ability to purchase a desired username through the Fragment site, using the $TON blockchain to transact with the related Toncoin cryptocurrency.

What if one already owns a potentially sellable username? There are two cases: the platform will send a proposal to resell it on Fragment or one can volunteer to do so.

What do you think about this innovation?

The innovation is quite laudable but I don't really understand how it can be possible. Username is something that is unique and can not be easily transferable. Assuming I have a username I fancy or my business is build around it, it will be difficult for me to sale it.

username? i mean everyone has unique username.. there aren't really any note worthy people in telegram or i don't think people will care enough for a username because of how easy it is to make an account with any username you want to have.. maybe advertisers will buy this but normal users.. i doubt

You'll be shocked that telegram usernames are traded at high value especially short brandable usernames. You can check the ton marketplace for a history of transactions. Most usernames were sold for over $10,000.

For real?! dang.. that is a lot of money i guess that makes sense because a good username can actually be used by people who needs it while NFT getting sold for millions is just a jpeg only good for profile picture and to show off

Yes it's based on demand. Brandable domain or usernames on crypto are very expensive. Those who got 3-4 letter domains on Ens sold theirs for thousands of dollars. The demand for them is very high.

those who got those usernames is very lucky if they can still access their accounts. but do we have to mint it or give up the accounts or the telegram itself is selling the usernames? because if you sell your username telegram should move it right

Bro I have 9 accounts & usernames on telegram and the selling process is easy. You just have to download a toncoin wallet app & then have to connect the app & your telegram accounts on your fragment account. That's it.

is that so? that's good to heard. personally i don't really have a very good username to sell but i also have a few accounts . i will try and check this app out just satisfy my curiosity. have you tried to sell any username?

Yes you grant access to telegram so they'll migrate ownership to the new owner. Yes people who created telegram early are lucky because they were opportuned to create those usernames.

To sell username, you have to start 2FA verification first. After that you have to wait 7-10 days to place it on a auction. So, I'm currenty waiting and I have some really cool names, I hope it will work inshaAllah.
