Spain is in preparation to require citizens to report Bitcoin and altcoin assets. Even if these assets are kept on overseas platforms, they will have to be declared.
According to local news outlet El Economista, the country's tax authority is preparing to implement these decisions from this year.
In your opinion, what could be the reasons of the Spanish government in this practice?

I think they are just looking for means to gain more control over citizens fund and start looking for means to tax them more , sice crypto is decentralized it would be hard for them

The government just seeks a way to have control no matter how small it may be. Many governments are already finding ways to indirectly control their people's crypto assets.
I guess even if they can't do it fully, they still find a way. With this year, for some reason, there seems to be an increase in news about such news, ie the practices of the governments.

I don't see it as bad move because the country want to make money or generate revenue from the bitcoin holder and possibly regulate it , it is better than outright ban.

They are trying to monitor in flow and out flow of bitcoin. Also to know the identity of crypto holders in order to prevent it being use to finance illegal activities.

Can you see that their own move and strategies to regulate and control cryptocurrency is far better than what you have in Nigerian today instead of them to regulate they are busy baning cryptocurrency to Fiat trading which is not the best.

Their monitoring and anti-money laundering efforts are of course positive. I guess nobody would oppose the logical rules for this. I hope all countries can make their own laws without a ban on coins.

If they are strict monitoring Money laundry activities it is offcourse a welcome development , if the CBN had approach the issue with regulations it would have been better than ban.

Some government are even bold about it. They outrightly want control or nothing. For me if the control will limit fraudulent activities then I wouldn't mind

Well, that would be some serious price to pay for individuals. As it is now, the best option is to ensure regulatory policies that would guide crypto use and adoptionß.

Am not sure if their plan of controlling it is actually on limiting fraudulent practices , I think most actually do that to introduce taxation

Control of cryptocurrencies is not something forthcoming but government can regulate it to minimize crime rate and generate revenue.
They are more of generating revenue most especially some countries that don't care much about the well being of their citizens , they don't bother about that

I mean if they're not doing something illegal they nothing to fear about this. Although it seems like a hussle we can't do anything if the government wants this rule

The government would obviously push more so they could benefit more from the rule ,since that's what they chose from the start and the kñow the benefits of introducing taxation

As long as they're not being unreasonable with taxes i guess it will be fine.. also if they tax them they should protect them if people ever got scammed or something

Yeah the tax shouldn't be too much that people would start finding it hard to pay atleast it should be convenient amount for people to pay so the burden won't be felt

It was the proposed US tax bill that scared people that period when there was slight drop in the price of bitcoin before the Elon and China crackdown in the cryptocurrency market.

That's why i think taxing should be done with exchangers or wallets so people wouldn't feel much difference since we always pay fees for transactions anyway
