I lurk / post on several webmastering forums, and there seems to be general disagreement over which is more effective: social media marketing or ad-based marketing. I'd like to see what you guys think. Do you prefer ads to spread the word about your website, or social media, or both? Or, heck, neither? I generally rely just on search engine traffic for my niche, but I'm sure it varies from one person to the next.

social media is the best place to put your business before so many people,it is the best way which more money can be made, but there are still some work to do,you need to put your effort to advertise your service sometime you need to suspend the important things that are on your table and do the promotion yourself
Many business yeah use social media for their landing page. They dont run web for their business. Some also use both of them

While some people may choose one over the other I think advertising is about increasing reach and awareness so the combination of both might just be the best strategy to adopt unless for people who do not have money for paid advertising then social media becomes more recommended as one can advertise for free with a variety of methods

That seems to be true but I dont think any human can start any business online and he know that such business need promotion then refuse to set a budget for it,traffic is the soul of any business,so both socal media and ads are really important if you are serious about the promotion

The combination of advertising and social media for fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) will be more effective in boosting sales.

You need a social media presence. It doesn't take a long time to set up a profile and it helps so much creating backlinks and it comes up and is indexed quickly on google. It can help your business pop up in a google search thus increasing your exposure.

Social media is comparatively very cheap or free to promote our products, whereas ads require you to have some capital and involves risk of not reaching potential clients!

Making a social media account is very simple thing to do. But the hardest thing is to build the brand and popularity, so people gonna be follow the account

These days we can't be without a social media platform presence but like some of you have said, the easy part is setting up the accounts, building a solid following is quite another. But someone recently said something that really resonated with me - even if very few people follow you, that's not to say the masses don't see you! So you may as well just continue doing your thing via these platforms until it finally works.

I agree 100% that social media bring 98% sales. The reason why platforms like Snapchat are getting common is because of the influencers. Marketers say that people are impacted more by influencers than any other form of marketing.
social media can only bring that percentage of sale if you know how to advertsie very well, its not so guranteed that with social media you will make that amount of success easyly remember that sometime you will need to spend some money runing a paid advert on social media like (facebook sponsored ads) before you can get much traffic to your links,You talk about snapchat but I never use it before for advertising.

Yeah you are right mate. Manh people burn much money for online advertisement because they dont do research before doing it

I think the two is good because if you really want to get more visitors on social media you obviously needs to buy ads to get more visitors

The latest Facebook ad we took out yesterday took forever in review, overnight, in fact! It usually takes a few hours if not less. I feel like the standards of the people in charge of the ads section's standards are slipping. Has anyone else experienced this lately?

Social media advertising.
Of course, there are drawbacks, namely very low targeting due to diversity and wide audience resulting in low ROI due to unconverting visitors. Not to mention, visitors use social media to socialize and are not interested in advertisements

You are right, I suspect some people may be annoyed by those sponsored adverts. I mean, when you think about it, they annoy us as well. Maybe it's time Facebook switched things up and came up with a different strategy. The current Facebook ads are old and tired now.

I guess social media is the best if you are already known in the country but if not still you can develop your brand like on Facebook through ads for a page vs normal ads I don't see the same thing so Facebook for ads is better choice

Facebook can be used locallay or internationally. Mostly people have friends from their own country. But we can have random friends from other countries

Yeah, social media works so well if you have become so popular and gained many friends and followers. This requires someone who has been active in social media for long.

Social media for me, it's more engaging and alot of people are on there. Definitely social media

Personally, if I absolutely one how to create great adverts that convert, why waste time on social media?

What can be achieved in days will take you a year or more with social media marketing.
