I lurk / post on several webmastering forums, and there seems to be general disagreement over which is more effective: social media marketing or ad-based marketing. I'd like to see what you guys think. Do you prefer ads to spread the word about your website, or social media, or both? Or, heck, neither? I generally rely just on search engine traffic for my niche, but I'm sure it varies from one person to the next.

They are all important in marketing. You cannot concentrate on social media and forget about ads. It is like saying you prefer having your hands instead of your feet. When you continue posting on social media, your banners should be directing more visitors to your site. Make sure you join several ad programs if you want your campaigns to be successful.

I too rely on search traffic, but in these days people are more active on social media sites as they are even searching news using hash tags instead on search engines.

I tried all the ways, but Social media conversion rate is too bad for me as it is never converted into a dime except the traffic that is viral.

Try all methods to test which one works and not work for you. Some people are making good amount of money using Social media site.

If the ads are targeted then definitely go with them.

I relate social media more with untargeted ads. I think social networking is like expanding a fishing net in the sense that only a portion of what you catch is useful, hence it will all depend on where you "fish".

On the other hand, paid ads can prove to be quite effective, especially ads in search engine results or being fetured at sites in the exact same niche that your product belongs to. Their effectiveness derives from the fact these visitors are "pre-selected" due to their affinity.

Some people buy ads as their only method of obtaining customers, so yes, they have proven to be effective; and the more effective they are for a web owner, the more they will continue to buy --ask Google.

Ad-based marketing will get you better results any day.

Only people interested in learning more about what you are promoting/selling will click the ads and visit your site. In the end you'll be getting more sales than someone who relies on social media marketing to send them prospective customers, assuming you get the same number of people visiting your site.

However there's no reason why anyone should choose either ads or social media marketing. Use both. Make more money.

I think both ways should be used for more effective result.I always like to explore all means for sales,it shouldn't be limited to only this way or that way.But if I'm to choose I think I will go with all social media platform because that is where one gets to meet more people.

The ads banners are mostly posted on blogs and forums which alot of persons does not visit but more than 2 billion people are on Facebook alone, which one can't see such amount on forums or blogs.

So go for both but if you're to chose,go for social media which is free too.

If you earn by advertising then you should go for ads otherwise go for social marketing. I suggest make a Facebook page and group about your websites and promote the page. Get likes and then get traffic from your page.

Mix both. You can benefit more that way. Just ads on adwords alone won't cut it. Add the FBAds and the profit will be more. And the amount of people clicking on the links would be more. And in such case I'd say there are times when the profit on the adwords would be low. So the social ads from the facebook and the twitter definitely helps in many ways. So one has to consider that part too. On that basis I'd say mix both the type of the ads.

Ad based marketing all day long. If you invested in Google Ads, google adverts are targeted at your search history so the user may be in encouraged to click on the market campaign which leads to you getting more page views.

You can use social media if you have thousands of followers, otherwise why to use social media platforms for advertising? If you don't have many followers you have to pay for advertising or doing SEO.

I think social media don't match with Ads any more , Increasingly people are putting up ad blockers and users are becoming blind to ads is they are still being populated. Finally, too many ads are based on a re-targeting algorithm.

it still to devise a means to beat those visitors using ad blockers even some browsers now comes with inbuilt ads blockers. but I still believe social media is still the better option than ads.

in marketting one need to keep all options open. you never know which one will perform for you. these days social media specially FB is on every bodies radar. people tend to visit those sites for hours and hence social media is very strong media to reach people.
ads are much more costly and as per my opinion unproductive.
forums are also providing some new avenues for advertising.

I think most of the members would agree with you, what you have wrote in your post. Most of the members know, that social media ads are the cheapest and have many advantages over paid advertising.Though some social media platforms are very strict about those ads,I think it is good to create some landing pages,to be sure everything will be working fine on your social media pages.

I've tried out both and find that social media has brought me 98% of my sales. I still utilize ads daily, but I have several thousands followers all across social media so I know that the products I'm promoting (and my business in general) will reach potentially thousands of people. Be careful with Google+, they are very strict about advertising via their sites. When it comes to advertising, utilize all avenues available to you.

i am a social media based affiliate marketer i use hashtags and notes with keywords to copy and paste on my content ! i currently use tweetdeck to automate my twitter which is what i rely on i have a bunch of niche twitters probably about 15 !! Ive had some deleted and what not im in the adult industry hentai based products with about 6 of em which is my main earner, i also have a ******** twitter, than my personal is skate and fashion ! I recommend cloning your page off a page bigger in your niche take their followers because they will love your niche!! you can only follow so many people but yes the downfall of social media is you need some good viral tweets to get sales but hey more niche related followers the better!! but i do want to build a website with better traffic and do try to take advantage of forums in my niche!!

Advertising as well on social media sites have some risks.I have read that some Facebook page owners had their account closed for couple of days, because they tried to advertise their websites with affiliate links there.

I would prefer to use both social media and ads to promote a website if I had one. Though social media seems best as you can reach people directly and it could generate more traffic.
