As a forum owner, I got couple offers from interested marketers, and I know for sure 2 of them were legit buyers and highly interested.

I wanted to share with you a little bit of information maybe it will be helpful to other forum owners who wanna sell or even buy a successful forum.

So first you work hard on your forum, launch, population, investments after investments in content and promotion and finally after couple years you get to the point where the forum is doing well, there's revenue coming from left and right and you doing ok. At this point, you will see marketers coming to you with offers to buy it from you.

They will first ask your forum stats, last 12 months especially... for revenue and traffic of course.

You forward the stats, real stuff, no bullshit so that in case they wanna verify you can do so via TeamViewer or give admin access etc.

After that, they will ask the price, in case you didn't know the price for a general website is at least 12x monthly profit. But since you have a forum it can go up to 30x monthly profit and even more if you confident your project is here to stay 10 years + in the niche as an authority site.

So now you have a clue about your site value, you may ask for offers, personally, I have been offered so far 2 times $10,000 and one time $20,000 to sell BMF right now and I passed both offers.

In case you satisfied with the offer the best way to sell without getting scammed is by using Escrow service. Money is held and a fee is paid. That's how you do business online.

If you guys have any questions let me know and I'll do my best to answer it.

Regards,
Mr. B

I think your site is worth more than $20k in the future.
But if this site has been sold, we didnt know what the new owner will do with this site.
This forum is paying people to post, money making forum. It needs a honest owner, like your self.
Finding a true money making site is hard these days.
Why they not order a site from you?

Anyway I never do a large online payment so I didnt know about escrow.com
But I have done a smaller transactions involved a site that gives escrow services in the past.
And escrow services is great for safe transaction:Thumbsup:

So what's your decision ? , you're waiting higher offer , or you will keep this forum for another years ?
I was just looking to see how much is worth as of today considering our stats of traffic and revenue.

If I really wanna sell the forum I would get it listed on EmpireFlippers or Flippa, I bet it will be sold in 24h and for lot more than they offered, because the forum makes money no joke, and is going in the right direction.

Well I never thought of buying one but certainly it was nice to know about that. Actually owning a forum is a great feeling but I can imagine it's not easy to make a buying decision taking into consideration the pros and cons.

Your site is worth more than $20k in the near future .
The forum actually is worth more than that even now. I have been speaking with leading site sellers, according to my stats and earnings it worth at least $30k+. And with the speed we grow in content and traffic and revenue in 1-2 year this forum must worth $150k+ at least. Mark my words!

$30k is small if compare with the revenue on the site. When a site reached a stable big revenue, it has very high value.
Even $150k is not enough if you compare the earning for lifetime mr.B.
Unless you had new plan to replace your site. Bigger income maybe.

I know many people purposely build websites, develop apps, etc. with the intention of selling them. The thing with the valuations or appraisals, especially social communities and forums, is that the dollar amount may not reflect the value of the work done by owners, management, admin and support staff. It does reflect their work which is the reason for the traffic stats, etc. But it doesn't really show the goodwill developed when members and the Help folks interact, get problems solved really quickly and so on.

Sometimes when the new owners take over, they think since the site stats are already built up they can just sit back, and let the money flow. Members try to contact or communicate with them and their messages get dropped into a void. That same valuable site goes down the drain. Know what I mean?

Nevertheless, if you worked hard to build an awesome site, then it's only right that you should reap the rewards and benefits from your labor.

The essence of business is satisfaction and profit making. However in my opinion it won't be bad if the forum is sold to a reliable person who meant business, but the $20, 000 is not too good for the growing forum, it will be good if is sold at least $100, 000 with this you may not feel any regrets in 10 years away.

Mr B your reputation online is worth more than any amount put as offer.
Perhaps they want to simply buy you out of this type of business because they've learned that they would never be able to compete with your level of integrity, honestly, open book policy and reputation ....

More than financial sense it makes way more sense that they'd want to buy out.

Lets look at another factor; this particular forum simply stands as a good symbol of the possibility of online money. And the online environment is full of scammers willing to deceive and trick only to disappear the following month/year.

I like this forum; it's well structured, disciplined and ethical.

Mr B. I quite found it educative and randomly informative. But I wish to ask, certain question to complete my research.

Mr B i believe in everything we do our main aim is to earn something tangible. Quoting from your interestinteresting analysis what other means that is reliable apart from escrow serviceservices.

Update:
Less than a week ago I was offered $35,000 to sell the forum, an IT company want it... but of course, I rejected politely the offer.

We have talked a bit on Facebook... at first, they offered $30,000 and after I rejected it they offered $35,000.

I see our Alexa stats climbing as well, and all this is just organing traffic, nothing else.

I believe we just scratch the surface and the BIG traffic is yet to come, I can see already search engine traffic increasing every day since we started rewriting content. Seems good investment after all. Will continue investing in quality content and thank you guys for requesting to rewrite threads! See you around and will keep you updated. ;)

I am not sure when I would go for a forum of my own but what I know for sure is that I will have one of my own. I am glad that you gave me couple of new information which will certainly help me negotiate in a better way. However, one thing is for sure that the forum I will buy will be lot lesser than $20K.

@Mr. B having a credible forum like yours is not easy to achieve. So far you had a 20,000 members which other forum doesnt have People here i know trusted you as you have a good reputation forum owner and im sure if you will gonna sold this forum in the future many member including myself will be sad 100%. But of course the decision is in your hand always.

YAY! I think you were smart to refuse the offer. I don't know if this is done but if it were me I would have asked for the lump sum payment and also to be allowed to remain as the platform administrator for a small monthly fee and maintain the forum. After all, it is your hard work that got the forum where it is. If you keep working at it you could probably get it to rank even higher. Then after maybe a few years, check the site value again and then ask if they want to complete the sale with a final buyout offer. Like I said, I don't know if that's done but ... why not try it? There is a first time for everything. ;)
