Scribie Review.jpg

Scribie is a transcription company that hires people to transcribe audio files into word documents. This is a simple way to earn money online if you like this type of work. Earning money from a transcription company will require you to have excellent typing skills and listening skills. You will be listening to audio tapes and typing up what people have said in a word document.

How Does It Work?
  • You can go to their website and register an account.
  • Like all transcribing companies, there is a test that you'll need to take.
  • This will require you to listen to an audio tape and transcribe the tape.
  • Each company has their own way of transcribing the audio files.
  • The company supplies you with a set of instruction to follow in order to transcribe this tape.
  • You must listen to the tape and pass the test in order to be accepted by the company.
  • If you don't pass the test the first time, don't worry. You will have10 chances to pass this test. This is the only company I have run across that allows you so many opportunities to pass the test.
  • If you fail the test, the company is very helpful. They will send you back the test and mark the test on why you failed. They will give you plenty of help to pass this test and understand what they want. So don't worry too much about the test, they are there to help you with this.
  • Once you're accepted it is easy to find work on this site.
  • They have jobs listed that you can accept and transcribe.
  • You are free to work your own hours and do as much work as you want.
  • Many people will treat this as a full-time or part-time work at home opportunity.
How Do You Earn?
  • You are paid by the audio hour, and not how long it takes you to transcribe the tape.
  • If the tape is 10 minutes long you will only earn a fraction of the pay for transcribing this tape.
  • The company requires that you have a PayPal account and this is how they pay you.
This is a great company. Just make sure you calculate the audio minutes and how much you'll earn before taking a job. Once you get proficient at this work and can transcribe the tape quicker it will make it much easier to earn money with this company.

Thank you for sharing this site. I have heard some people doing very well at Humanatic, but I haven't personally try it out yet. It's good that there are more sites like this for us to work.

Is there any referral program for this?

Wow! Thanks for this tip. Definitely it's a good one. ;)

I would love it if there were more sites that offer those earning possibilities (particularly, they are one of my favorites). I think it's a very nice - and fun... yeah, you read it right, i said fun :p - job to do.

Scribie is a transcription platforms that allows you to transcribe files that are usually either 6 minutes or under. You can earn 1$/min depending on your work and your accuracy. After registration you will have to do a test which they will review and then determine whether to accept you or not. They require a verified paypal account.

I have been a good notes taker before for I have been covering speeches of important persons in the government and other news coverage. I carry with me a set of recording gadget, a paper and a pen to record what I have heard and seen. I was a good at it.

But now I am not possessing that skill anymore. I have sometimes experienced a hearing loss due to my senior age. I am already 65 years old. How I wish I want to be an online transcriber but my condition doesn't warrant.

I have heard of this before and transcribing was one of the first things that I started doing to earn online. I started with high hopes but those have really taken a hit lately.

I'm few months in to this making money online thing. I've landed on Scribie as the most profitable next to prolific surveys. I've found out about a whole lot of ways to actually make money, but I tend to hide behind the belief that it's simply my personality and the way I've been raised and also the culture that I cannot do those things in a few years time at least for I simply can't cope with the possible consequences. The most profitable being the https://www.beermoneyforum.com/ industry, obviously. A tiny bit of philosophizing and you would understand how we're prisoners to our ways.

Sometimes... Sometimes it feels like I'm a slave working at Scribie. It's when the accent of those Americans who have butchered English language to oblivion the most, with a piss poor audio quality on top of it, is all there is to choose from for a few days in a row. As a transcriber, you will not benefit from the extra they ask for when the quality of the audio is poor. For you, the transcriber, the pay will be exactly the same as if it was the easiest audio file to transcribe you can imagine.

All that rant just means is it's not really for me for I lack the necessary understanding of all those butchered ways and accents in general to only be bottlenecked by the speed at which I'm writing what I hear...

I heard about Scribie years ago and I think it is a legit site. I would love to try this site since there are few calls in Humanatic recently. But do you have to show some background to be able to get accepted?

I am a freelancer who are majoring in translation. Just wondering that are you mostly involved in vidoe/audio transcription? Do you need to record your voice or put all the text on a word file?
BTW, just wondering that the rate is $0.75/minute?(I did a research and found this rate online).
Thanks, @Justice.

Scribie only does audio transcription as far as I know. And no, you don't record yourself or your voice. You simply choose out an audio from all of the available ones and type it out in a text.

The pay rate varies if I'm honest. If nobody takes certain files for a while they increase the pay for it and so on... you can find anywhere from $0.5 for 6 minutes of audio and all the way up to $2.10 for 6 minutes. But if you get promoted to a reviewer you can also get paid more.

Further question, how long can you finished a 1 minute audio transcritpion if no caption is provided there?
Based on my experience, a speaker can talk about 200 words per minute. It seems a lot, and sure worth more than $0.10 per minute, I think. We charge about USD10-15 for translating 200 words normally.

Yeah but translation and transcription are different. In the translation, you have to capture the whole context of the original language into the goal language. I've done a lot of translating before as well and the pay rate is definitely better.

The main reason that pay rate for transcription is so low is because all these online based companies want cheaper workforce. If you'd manage to get a job at offline based, serious transcription company then you'd get a much nicer pay :D

How long do 6 minutes take? That depends on the quality of audio, how well you can listen and how fast you can type. I got roughly 90 WPM and I try to take only audios with decent quality. It usually takes me around 45 minutes to type all out + go over it 2 times, correct grammar and punctuation and so on.

Yes, correct. The online company always try to minimise the cost by squeezing the labour. Thus, it's hard for me to get a job via online companies. However, I think the normal and reasonable pay rate/hour should be about USD5 -USD20 depends on geographical location.

Congratulations. How long did it take you to earn that much? I have never done transcription works but would love to try. Do I need to have some experience to join that site?

How long it takes depends on which audios you take. They range from $0.5 and above $2.10 :)

So, if you are lucky and get goo quality at high price then it is easy.

And before you get accepted you have to apply. If they accept you then you gotta pass a test to fully join.

Okay. Thank you for your reply. I came across another thread here explaining about this site. I will try to join soon. I hope that I pass the test. As for you I hope that you get another payment from them soon.

Thank you! I have gotten plenty of payments from them so they are legit. You just gotta wait for your file to get reviewed and rated. Then you can easily withdraw ;)

If you ever need help with passing the exam just contact me and I will try to give you advice.
