Scammers have recently targeted privacy-focused coins such as Monero and Zcash.
They have even created false URLs of applications such as Mymonero for Android.
In Zcash they have created false accounts on Twitter, where they have more than 6000 followers. They post false information on crypto distributions and even raise funds in ETH.
Many will wonder why criminals are targeting privacy focused coins and one of the reasons is that they can appear high in the results when conducting searches, it is much more difficult to get those results when it comes to Bitcoin and Ethereum.
The fake wallet problem only happens on Google Play, as the Apple store manually verifies every app update. This results in the Google store having thousands of scam apps.
Many of us know that scammers or hackers are very fond of those people who do not take steps to verify new applications.
Here are some tips to avoid downloading one of those scam apps.
1.- Look for references about the wallet on the internet. All of these have many reviews on blogs, youtube, social networks.
2.- Look for the recommendations of the developers.
3.- Include triple verification wallets.
4.- Make the first purchase for 10 dollars and withdraw the money, if everything turns out well, buy everything you are going to buy.
5.- Install applications with more than 100,000 downloads, with a 4-star rating and more than 1,000 reviews.
6.- Be very careful when acquiring coins such as Monero, Zcash and others focused on privacy.
7.- If you come across a false URL, report it to Google.
What do you think about the security measures?
Do you have any other security recommendations?
Did you know that the scammer who knows about apps spends an average of 2 days creating the app and spends less than $ 25 to publish their fake app?

If you don't get updates from forums like these you can't learn except you are scam. It is when you get scammed from a fake wallet that you will care to know things to check before downloading a wallet

That is why it is not good to be a lone wolf, there are people who believe they are self-sufficient and make mistakes of feeling that they can handle all the current information.

I am always open to learning even on things I know already because the internet keeps changing on daily basis. Many had fall victims because they downloaded fake apps.

100% agree with you. The internet is very dynamic, that is why it is necessary to constantly update itself in terms of progress and security, it is not necessary to close to new options, terms and systems

These tips would definitely help keep one away from wallets that are scamming in nature. I will go with multiple verification of a wallet it will help one stay away from scamming wallets

If the wallet has web version it is better to sign up with site first then you sign in with your details, I think it is better because fake wallets are difficult to decode now

The tips given is good, we should try and stick to it when trying to download anything online in order for us to be save. Had I know comes later.

There is so much fake things online now from fake links, downloads to wallet. Sometimes even knowing the real ones now is becoming very difficult. These tips will be helpful

I think it's better to stick to those wallet who have already been there for a while and already trusted and being used by alot of people, like don't get baited to those wallets that allegedly offers you money just for using their wallet

You are right because if you use what is common and people are very use to ,incase of any challenges it can easily be solved

You are right because I know a lot of people using luno especially Nigerians because it is very reliable and people have not had issue with it.

Unfortunately most people learn when unfortunate situations happen with their security, hacking, theft, etc.
I wish there was a way to force everyone to prepare for these types of situations
Experience is really the best teacher. Wishing there was a force to prepare people won't work as effectively as having those people pass through such.

yeah though most of the time experience from failures will cost the person , though hope that those persons will learn hard from it due to what it costs them

There is no how you won't learn from challenges or scams in this case, only few people are continually scammed either because they are greedy or refuse to learn from mistakes

Always check the source.. i mean when you download a wallet you must check it its the legit Account of the developer. Check the name and the number of downloads also reviews

I think number of downloads and reviews are very necessary then if you have a referral link from other users it is far better.

Be it wallet or any other apps, I hardly touch anything online without making proper investigations. We just need to take more precautionary steps just as you have succinctly suggested.
Yeah, doing investigations before doing anything online is very necessary. I did not know about this current scam where they steal from you by giving you a fake update. I am glad I have learnt it here and how to avoid it.

The primary spot you should look when trying to download a Bitcoin wallet, particularly in the event that you are new to Bitcoin, is the bitcoin.org site. While this isn't the official site of bitcoin, it is kept up through the Bitcoin people group exertion.

It records Bitcoin wallets that the more extensive Bitcoin people group has examined and affirmed as trustable and secure.

I can't help but be grateful for this platform and some others that have become sources of genuine information about legit and scam sites.
